Review: July Glossy Box

Thursday August 2nd, 2012 at 7:35 pm

It’s a little hard trying to write a review while watching the Olympics @_@ Anyone else keeping up with the Olympics right now? I’m waiting for the women’s gymnastics to start. It’s a little sad to see China doing poorly in women’s gymnastics this year. While I’m all for Team USA (and I hope those two girls both get the gold!) I’ve always enjoyed watching China compete as well and a little part of me cheers for them.

My fourth Glossy Box is here, time sure does fly when you’re having fun. I don’t have anything new to say on Glossy Box this month except maybe please look into a better shipping service ;_;

Box contents for July include:

  • Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm
  • Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Shampoo
  • Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Conditioner
  • Figs & Rouge Lip, Face and Body Balm
  • Senna Cosmetics Mineral Eyes Shadow Trio
  • Blushed Fragrance by Ruddy Water
  • July’s theme is Summer Nights.

After a sizzling day in the sun, there is nothing better than a cool summer night. This month’s GLOSSYBOX offers you the essentials you’ll need to indulge in products that show off your sun kissed skin and hair and enhance sultry eyes. Afterwards, throw on your sexy sandals and dance the night away under the shimmering summer sky.

July’s box features 5 items and one bonus item.

Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $18.50 (100 ml)
Glossy Box Value: $5.55 (30 ml)

Description: The ultimate savior for rough, dry feet! This luxurious cream, enriched with MarinaVital complex, helps prevent the build-up of hard skin with long lasting results. The soothing and effective combination of shea butter, allantoin and tea tree oil provides intensive protection and nourishes skin, leaving it soft and supple.

Originally from Germany, the Pedix Heel Rescue Balm is a perfect solution for helping to soothe out feet. This is one of the more useful items I found in July’s box. While my heels are not terribly dry and cracked, the balm helps to make them smoother and more healthy. Outside of sites like Amazon and eBay, I’m not sure where else you can purchase this item in the US. The line also features other products to help achieve better looking feet such as foot masks, energy pads, heel smoothing sticks, and more.

Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Shampoo [Purchase (Travel Size)]

    Actual Value: $14.95 (8.4 oz)
Glossy Box Value: $3.02 (1.7 oz)

Description: Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Shampoo’s smart color moisture complex targets color-treated strands, to deeply moisturize where needed most.

This is another one that you’ll probably have better luck finding on Amazon and eBay although Ulta sells a travel size for $4.49. This a decent sized shampoo sample and it smells great. The only problem? I don’t have highlighted and multi-colored hair. Sadly this product won’t do anything for me but it’s supposed to help maintain healthy hair while giving long lasting color and shine.

Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Conditioner [Purchase (Travel Size)]

    Actual Value: $16.95 (6.6 oz)
Glossy Box Value: $4.23 (1.65 oz)

Description: Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Conditioner’s whipped foam micro-bubbles spread around every hair fiber, restructuring hair’s condition for long-lasting color shine and vibrancy.

The conditioner packaging has a very sleek design, just look at that interesting pump. I’m glad Glossy Box gave both a shampoo and conditioner sample to go hand in hand, but again….I don’t have highlighted and multi-colored hair.

I might give these to a friend of mine if she wants them so they don’t go to waste but I wish the boxes were more personal so I don’t receive two items that I won’t be able to use at all.

Figs & Rouge Lip, Face and Body Balm [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $6.00 (0.26 oz)
Glossy Box Value: $6.00 (0.26 oz)

Description: A 100% organic, 100% pure, 100% natural skincare product! Vitamin enriched organic essential oils, pure nourishing shea butters and natures best organic bees wax. This is our award winning formulation made to deliver the best and most effective moisturizing and natural balm for all skin types.

I’ve heard pretty good reviews for this product so it’s exciting to be able to try it out myself. Figs and Rouge balms are completely 100% organic and great for skin. These balms can be used just about anywhere although I will most likely use it as a lip balm only. You can use it to help with dry, cracked feet, help to treat cuticles and nails, help to treat dry hands, and help with flaky skin. You can also use it in your hair to soothe out those loose ends that pop up every now and then.

The sample comes in sweet geranium, which has a sharp, floral scent but you can also purchase the balm in a variety of other scents such as: rambling rose, peppermint and tea tree, pomegranate, aloe and mint, wild cherry, and coco vanilla. This is another product you will probably end up having to go to Amazon and eBay to purchase.

Senna Cosmetics Mineral Eyes Shadow Trio in Cocoa Nudes [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $24.00 (0.14 oz)
Glossy Box Value: $24.00 (0.14 oz)

Description: Highlight, contour and line in one easy compact. Silky textured pressed mineral eye shadows in metallic and softly matte colors give a hypnotic jeweled or muted, polished finish and amazing dimension.

Everyone either received an eye shadow set or a lip gloss set. Personally, I was hoping for the lip glosses. I might have boxes of lip glosses lying around but I use them a lot more than I do eyeshadows. This is a cute palette, it’s very easy to carry. The Mineral Eyes Shadow Trio sets either come in metallic or matte. I’m glad mine came in matte, I don’t know what I would do with metallic colors. The Cocoa Nudes pallete comes in the following colors: matte neutral cream, taupe, and rich chocolate.

Blushed Fragrance by Ruddy Water [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $22.00 (24 count)
Glossy Box Value: 0.92 (1 count)

Description: A fragranced towelette featuring notes of bright red currant and rich vanilla, wrapped around subtle sweet lemon, slightly spicy ginger, and kissed with a hint of sugar. This inviting fragrance will mingle with you throughout the day.

This was an extra item in the box. I’m okay with it but I probably won’t use it. It has a very heavy and sharp fragrance that I don’t particularly care for. These are handy to carry around. If I ever find these in a fragrance I like, I wouldn’t mind purchasing some. It’s a nice alternative to perfume or to carry with you for an easy freshening up on a night out.

    Total Value: $43.72

    Review: June Glossy Box

    Saturday July 7th, 2012 at 2:39 am

I originally was going to do July’s Sample Society as my next review but after finally receiving my Glossy Box today, I couldn’t help but dig into this one!

Glossy Box has had a rough couple of start up months, mostly because of their methods. One of the biggest complaints was their billing and shipping. The way it worked caused people to be billed before even receiving previous month’s box due to to the shipping being so slow. Glossy Box sent out the following email today:

As an update, Glossy Box will now bill the second week of the month and ship the third week as opposed to billing the first week and shipping the last. Hopefully, this means I’ll receive my box before the month is over. I personally did not care too much about the billing and shipping, as long as I received my box but I’m very glad Glossy Box has made efforts to listen to its customers. Change is not always immediate and takes time, but thank you Glossy Box for taking feedback from your customers! Now if only they could fix that shipping…:P

    Box contents for June include:

  • Ahava Mineral Botanic Hibiscus & Fig Velvet Cream Wash
  • First Aid Beauty Smooth Shave Cream
  • Ofra Cosmetics Eye Shadow ICE in Goldilocks
  • vBeaute Lite up, Buying Time, and Eye Never
  • Wella Professionals Enrich Moisturizing Treatment
  • Extras Include:

  • A Perfume Organic Urban Organic Perfume
  • June’s Glossy Box theme is “Summer Simplicity”. Now that summer is upon is, taking care of your skin and hair is very important. Is anyone else having a massive heat wave? It’s been over 100 degrees almost every single day, if not close it. My skin is dry to begin with and the weather is not helping.

June also marks the debut of the Glossy Mag! The mini magazine is filled with trends, news, tips, and articles perfect for that month. I’m not sure if this will be a reoccuring thing every month but I hope it is.

First Aid Beauty Smooth Shave Cream [Purchase]

Actual Value: $7.50 (2.0 fl oz)
Glossy Box Value: $7.50 (2.0 fl oz)

Description: FAB Smooth Shave Cream is rich, nourishing and non-irritating and contains everything you need to obtain a close, long-lasting shave. FAB Smooth Shave Cream minimizes nics and razor irritation and includes ingredients to soften, smooth and moisturize. Say goodbye to rough, dry legs forever. Infused with FAB Antioxidant Booster to combat free radicals.

This is a full sized sample although you can buy a larger version of it, it comes in a 6.8 oz for $16.50. I haven’t had a chance to use it but I’m rather excited to try the product. My legs are probably the driest part of my body. The shaving cream is odorless and has a rather thick consistency to it. I probably wouldn’t have expected shaving cream in a box but I think I’m in need of some more anyway.

Ahava Mineral Botanic Hibiscus & Fig Velvet Cream Wash [Purchase]

Actual Value: $23.00 (17 fl oz)
Glossy Box Value: $4.06 (3 fl oz)

Description: Body wash gently cleanses your skin without stripping it of natural moisture. Mineral Botanic Velvet Cream Wash for Normal to Dry Skin by Ahava soothes and moisturizes with a blend of Dead Sea minerals, macadamia oil and organic plant extracts to reveal healthy, glowing skin. SLS/SLES-free (harsh detergents). Approved for sensitive skin. Allergy tested.

A lot of people have had bad luck with this product arriving in one piece. The cap seems to be not as sturdy as it looks causing the item to spill all over the box. I’ve been fortunate enough to not have the issue and am very grateful for. It was something I was worried about. I am absolutely in love with this wash, it smells heavenly. Can anyone else tell by now smell is very important to me? Anyhoo, the hibiscus in this really is amazing, I’ll have to keep this in mind when I run out of body wash.

Wella Professionals Enrich Moisturizing Treatment [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $13.60 (150 ml)
Glossy Box Value: $2.27 (25 fl oz)

Description: Wella Professionals Enrich Moisturising Treatment for Fine to Normal Hair is a nourishing mask especially created for dry and damaged fine hair. This high performance treatment works to restore damaged hair, with ingredients such as silk extract and shea butter. Hair is repaired, protected and deeply hydrated without being weighed down for a silky soft, radiant and manageable finish.

This is another product which I really love the smell of, it’s sweet. I’m not too sure how well this product will work for me but it sounds like something I would need. My hair is also very dry. I blame it on all the hot showers I take and the lack of treatment I do give it. I’m sure this will be perfect to use.

vBeaute Lite up, Buying Time, and Eye Never [Purchase: , Buying Time, and Eye Never]

Actual Value: $370.00 (for all 3)
Glossy Box Value: $13.15 (for all 3)

Description: Lite Up Intense Brightening Agent has the power to rev up your skin wattage no matter how life has dulled your glow. Alpine Rose Botanical Technology fights free radicals to maintain your porcelain beauty while Watercress Skin Lightening Complex and Niacinamide work to banish age spots, discoloration and surface blemishes. Oil free.

Eye Never Nourishing Repair Eye Crème is like an eyelift in a jar. An age-defying, line-concealing eye cream that immediately smoothes and silkens the delicate skin around your eyes. Caffeine minimizes the appearance of puffiness, BioCellular Peptide and Sensytens correct lines and wrinkles, and Nylon 12 leaves you looking instantly younger.

Buying Time Everyday Crème is twice as nice as any daily moisturizer you’ve ever encountered. It watches over your skin both day and night with powerful replenishing ingredients, including Alpine Rose Botanical Technology, BioCellular Peptide and Ceramide 2 and 3. Think of Buying Time as your round the clock way of putting time in your hands.

Each of the samples come in a 0.033 fl oz sized tube, I have to give someone props for the creative names for the products. The line is way to expensive for my budget but it does look nice. The line consists of different skin care products, which can be used at different times of the day/night to help with anti-aging.

Ofra Cosmetics Eye Shadow ICE in Goldilocks [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $14.95 (14 ml)
Glossy Box Value: $14.95 (14 ml)

Description: Eyeshadow ICE with primer. Incredible Continuing Eyeshadow results. An innovation from our OFRA Cosmetic laboratories are long lasting cream eye shadows. Hypoallergenic and is suitable for use in all weather conditions, Colors are so intense you only need to use small quantities and you control the richness of the intensity by applying the color on your eyes in layers. Because it includes a primer, it will last 8 hours without smudging or creasing. It will give your eyes a smoother brighter finish, which will make you stand out in a crowd. Perfect to use for special occasion where long lasting makeup is needed.

Another full sized sample, while I am glad its eyeshadow, the color doesn’t really suit me. This was one product where people received different colors. I know some people have gotten the black one, which I probably would have found more use for. Goldilocks comes in a shimmery bronzer color, it doesn’t differ too much from a bronzer in my opinion. Those who did not receive the eyeshadow received a mascara instead. The mascara would have been more useful for me :(

A Perfume Organic Urban Organic Perfume [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $65.00 (12 ml)
Glossy Box Value: $unknown (no size listed)

Description: A sweet lemon sorbet with bourbon, tangy lime peel, basil, and ginger. A daytime perfume, fresh and citrusy, lavender and grapefruit make the most delicious combination. Perfect for clearing the air during a walk in the city.

This was an extra included with the box this month, I actually don’t mind tiny perfume samples if they aren’t included as part of the item count for the box. I have too many of them stocked up anyway. I couldn’t find how big this sample is, it wasn’t listed. The scent is something different though. It’s not something I would wear. You can smell the lemon sorbet with ease, it’s very tangy and citrusy but I prefer floral/sweet scents. This one makes my nose cringe. I’ve never seen such a weird combination of smells before, it seems to be the type of fragrance someone older would wear.

Total Value: $34.43 (not including A Perfume Organic’s Urban Organic Perfume)

    Review: May Glossy Box USA

    Monday June 4th, 2012 at 1:40 am

I’m always so happy to get Glossy Box’s! I’m paying a lot more money, it’s only expected that I get more excited. I meant to get this up 2 nights ago since I didn’t have a lot going but I got sidetracked with less important things so that didn’t happen. I think I have attention problems this weekend ._. It’s mostly because I’m dying to make a new layout and I have an idea in mind but I’m not anywhere skilled enough in Photoshop to make it happen so a lot of pondering has been going on.

Glossy Box USA has done well in it’s first public box! Outside of shipping, I have no complaints about any of the products. Glossy Box USA brings a new shipping method into attention, Newgistics. Newgistics is a shipping company dealing in the management of small parcel delivery and return services (yay for Wikipedia). They focus on developing a better process for returning products ordered online. Partnering up with USPS have made their shipping methods similar to UPS MI. Newgistics ships the package and it’s picked up later by USPS to be delivered. It sounds fancy but Newgistics process is extremely slow, even slower than that of UPS MI in my opinion. It usually takes Glossy Box over a week to get to me even though I’m on the east coast. Glossy Box USA has said they are looking into newer shipping methods but the soonest it would be implemented would be a couple months, and that’s if there are any changes made. I don’t generally have fits over shipping as long as it gets to me at some point but in these cases, I wouldn’t mind paying additional to receive it sooner. Patience might be a virtue but I don’t have it :)

    Box Contents for May include:

  • Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Refreshing Hydra-Gel
  • Burberry Beauty Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipstick Copper No. 202
  • Marvis Whitening Mint Toothpaste
  • Phyto Phytojoba Intense Hydrating Mask for Dry Hair
  • ZOYA Summer 2012 Beach and Surf Collection Nail Polish in Reagan
  • Glossy Box Exclusive Blush Brush
  • Glossy Box USA’s “first” box has delivered what they promised, 5 travel-sized beauty items with some being full sized samples! The theme for May is “Beauty Around the World”. Each product originates from a different country. I love trying international brands so you have no idea how happy Glossy Box keeps making me.

The info cards list products, descriptions, what country they represent, prices, and more information. The card hints the soon to be released Glossy Dots program. The Glossy Dots program will allow you to review products from each box and you earn 20 points for each review, which will eventually go towards a free box! I’m not too sure how many points will be required before you can redeem your free box but the rewards program should be up soon with the info. Other countries that have referral programs will also allow you to earn dots through referrals. Hopefully the US will get this option soon as well. The amount of points earned varies country to country but it seems that every country let’s you redeem a free box after 1000 points. If the US follows the same tradition, that means 50 reviews will earn you a free box. If you review every item in each box, you can redeem a free box after 10 months. It sounds like a long time, but with the help of referral points, some people will be able to receive multiple free boxes in a year.

ZOYA Summer 2012 Beach and Surf Collection Nail Polish in Reagan (USA) [Purchase]

Actual Value: 0.5 fl oz ($8.00)
Glossy Box Value: 0.5 fl oz ($8.00)

Description: Zoya Nail Polish in Reagan can be best described as a deep, cool fuchsia pink with subtle blue undertone and an opaque cream finish. Reagan packs a lot of color without being excessively bright and is soft but not overly muted.

This is the only item in the box that came in a variety. You would have received any random color from ZOYA’s Summer 2012 Beach & Surf Collection. Glossy Box seems to love giving me pink nail polishes. This one is a darker shade of pink than the OPI nail polish fro April’s box, which was a shade of hot pink.

It looks more bright in the photo but fuchsia pink is a great term for it’s color. It’s a slightly darker shade a pink. ZOYA rates the intensity of this color with a 4 with 1 being sheer and 5 being opaque. The nail polish dries fairly quickly and the color is gorgeous on my nails. It has a very smooth looking finish. I don’t ever wear nail polish but ZOYA is one brand I see a lot of people mention.

Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Refreshing Hydra-Gel (South Korea) [Purchase]

Actual Value: 1.7 fl oz ($100.00)
Glossy Box Value: 0.27 fl oz ($15.88)

Description: A refreshing, oil-free hydrating gel that works to delay all signs of aging. This deeply hydrating gel stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid in the skin to improve moisture levels. Formulated with ginger root extract and nine essential amino acids, these ingredients revitalize the skin to reveal a radiant complexion.

I genuinely do not mind small samples as long as they are not in packets. I find these small containers to be adorable! The gel comes in a light shade of blue/green and it smells very refreshing. I can’t quite pinpoint the smells but I would definitely love this every day. It’s also oil-free as an added bonus so no need to worry about oily residues and such.

It comes with a reflective mirror on the cap, I thought this was a very unique idea. I think the full size ones comes with one too. I had fun playing around with it.

Burberry Beauty Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipstick Copper No. 202 (UK) [Purchase]

    Actual Value: 0.12 oz ($30.00)
Glossy Box Value: .028 oz ($7.00)

Description: Burberry Lip Mist gives a sheer illuminating finish with a subtle hint of color, contains moisturising emollients and wild rose extract for long-lasting hydration and protection. The smooth and lightweight texture glides on effortlessly. Both the lipstick cover and lipstick come with the signature Burberry patterns.

My first thought was “another brown lipstick”? This is another sample that I thought was too adorable. The box the lipstick came in is about the size of my pinky finger.

Burberry’s Lip Mists are a bit different than lipsticks. They aren’t designed to focus a lot on color. When the lipstick says sheer, it does indeed mean sheer. The Lip Mist almost ended up looking like a lip gloss on me. It ended up going on more clear than it did brown, which makes it wearable for just about any occasion. Am I the only one who thinks the lip mist tasted like blue raspberry?

Marvis Whitening Mint Toothpaste (Italy) [Purchase]

    Actual Value: 1.23 oz ($7.50)
Glossy Box Value: 1.23 oz ($7.50)

Description: Marvis Whitening, with a sharp taste of cool mint for a pleasant and lasting freshness, carries out a whitening activity on your teeth for a more beautiful and splendid smile. Marvis flavors are created by offsetting the aroma of mint, to provide the freshness you need, with innovative notes to offer you a long-lasting pleasurable taste sensation that can be different every day. The Marvis Formula: White, protected teeth, fresh breath all day long, helps prevent tooth decay, tartar and plaque.

It’s interesting to receive toothpaste in a beauty box. I never would have expected it. The travel size is nice for me. Whenever I go on trips, I never take toothpaste and always end up bumming off my friends. Having extra toothpaste on hand also never hurts.

The smell isn’t anything special, just your usual fluoride, minty toothpaste. The consistency of the it seems a bit different to me, almost thicker than that of American brands. The mint flavoring isn’t strong, I had a hard time tasting much of anything in the toothpaste after using brands such as Colgate for so long. Marvis comes in a more subtle taste but still gets the job done!

Phyto Phytojoba Intense Hydrating Mask for Dry Hair (France) [Purchase]

    Actual Value: 6.7 oz ($38.00)
Glossy Box Value: 1.7 oz ($9.64)

Description: A staple at top salons, this aromatic mask from Phyto melts into a luxurious hair softener that moisturizes and instantly detangles. Hair regains elasticity and manageability.

This is my second Phyto item. I received one earlier in either my Beauty Fix or Beauty Army bag, can’t remember. I’m actually very excited to try this and the size of the sample is just amazing! My hair is super dry, it’s one think I’m constantly having to fight with. If this works well, I’ll definitely be back to buy a full sized one.

Glossy Box Exclusive Blush Brush [Purchase]

    Actual Value: —
    Glossy Box Value: —

This came an added bonus with the box. Who knows if it was because it’s the first box or if it’s something they will do every now and then for subscribers. I was happy to see it was a blush brush. It’s one of the few brushes I do not have. I’ve been using my foundation brush all this time. Glossy Box’s blush brush is an all black brush made from goat hair. It’s very soft and it’s easy to see that the quality of the brush is very nice. Thank you Glossy Box for the gift!

Total Value: $48.02 (not including the brush)

Not bad for a box that cost me $21. Minus the nail polish, I should have uses for all the items in the box. I can’t wait to see what’s in next month’s box :) Services like Birch Box and My Glam are great for the price and the opportunity to still try different products but I do prefer to have products I can use for a while and am willing to pay extra for it. Glossy Box is the most expensive service I have but it’s makes me the happiest. Next one up will be Sample Society, which I’ll be receiving my first box Tuesday. Let’s see what a $6 difference can make.

Glossy Box USA is officially open!

    Thursday May 10th, 2012 at 5:35 pm

Days of stalking Glossybox.com has finally paid off. They have kept their promise of an early May launch and the site is officially ready for subscriptions. There are currently a few kinks being worked out here and there. Any problems should be contacted to Glossy Box so they can help fix them. Chances are if you’re having problem with something, so is someone else. You can either email them via the contact us page or call them toll free at 1-855-738-4842. Their business hours are Monday through Friday 9 AM to 6 PM EST.

    Subscriptions are as follows:

  • $21 per month
  • $115 per 6 months (saves $11)
  • $220 per 12 months (saves $32)
  • I went ahead and nabbed the monthly subscription since I like the freedom of canceling anytime. You never know what can happen.

There are still a few bugs here and there that Glossy Box is working on.

Paypal seems to not work for a lot of people so it is recommended that you purchase with a credit card for now to ensure your subscription.

I’m having problems updating my billing and shipping address to different addresses. If I try to use different ones on the order form, it will not let me finish subscribing, saying that I do not have a state specified on my shipping address..which is not true. If I try to manually type in a shipping address, I get a blank field for the state. I can’t even select one. I went ahead and used the same address for both. I’m also unable to update the address individually on the my account page. If I update one, it automatically updates the other to reflect the same address.

It seems people are still having problems with the beauty quiz as well. I did not run into this problem when I subscribed, so there’s not much I can say on it. If you are having problems finish the beauty quiz, I would just sit tight as this is something being worked on.just skip it for now. They are working out the bugs and it will not affect the May box even though the boxes may not be the same for everyone, but will be products that can applied to everyone. So it seems the boxes will be sent out at random regardless of the beauty quiz answers.

For anyone unaware, subscriptions will start with the second Glossy Box. The first box was only given to select people and contest winners. Details and reviews on the first box can be found here. The second box will be the May box. Billing occurs the middle of every month and boxes will be shipped out towards the end of the month.

$21 puts Glossy Box as (I think) the highest monthly paid beauty subscription service. The boxes will definitely be valued at over $21, whether or not the items will be worth it to you is up for debate. If you’re into trying higher end products and international brands, I would definitely give Glossy Box a try. It’s a good idea not to compare Glossy Box to services such as My Glam or Birch Box that run $10 a month. While their prices are more affordable, they lack in term of item quality. It’s like comparing filet mignon to a hamburger from McDonalds. Food is food but it’s the quality of the food that you get. Glossy Box has released some really nice products in other countries. They’re biggest competition will be to keep up with those boxes here in the US as many people subscribe due to what they have seen before.

I’m officially the 59th member of Glossy Box! 58 people stalk better than I do ;]

    Review: April Glossy Box USA

    Friday May 4th, 2012 at 2:24 pm

It’s finally here! I was so excited to see this arrive today. The dang post office’s sucky tracking system did not update at all for me after the initial pick up scan, which was about 5 business days ago.

For those unfamiliar with Glossy Box, they are a UK based company with subscriptions available in over 18 countries! Simliar to Birch Box and My Glam, Glossy box is a monthly subscription service that delivers 5 travel-sized beauty products to you every month. Brands will be featured from all around the world, not just brands common in the United States. Currently, Glossy Box does not have subscriptions open although they will be releasing subscriptions this month. Anyone interested should sign up for the newsletter now in order to be among the first to receive the good news :) Boxes will run $21 per month, much higher than other beauty subscription services. Their foreign boxes have featured some really amazing items and it’s expected of their US boxes to do similar.

Glossy Box’s inaugural box is only limited to select people. You either had to be chosen by Glossy Box to receive a box and do a review in exchange or you had to be a contest winner. Contests ranged from random email picks, facebook giveaways, youtube contests, to twitter contests. The lucky winners were able to receive Glossy Box’s debut/first box! I won mine through Glossy Box’s first twitter party. I still can’t say enough how happy I am to have this opportunity. This box blew me away and makes me even more excited to subscribe. Read below to see what the contents~

    Glossy Box US Beta Debuts!

    Tuesday May 1st, 2012 at 10:08 am

Good news and bad news time.

Glossy Box has updated their website in preparation for the May launch.

Excuse the poor quality image. I’m doing this on the work computer so I’m only limited to MS Paint. You can go ahead and create an account but you’ll have to take a few extra steps to do it.

  • First click on “sign up now”.
  • Registering for the newsletter is optional but recommended. You’ll receive notification once subscriptions are available. You can also remove this feature later on in your account.

  • You can go ahead and input your billing and shipping address. I’m currently having problems entering in a different billing and shipping address, it seems it only lets me use one for both. I had similar problems with another subscription site so hopefully this is something Glossy Box can fix or it might automatically be fixed once subscriptions roll around. This is about as much as you can do for now but better to be a step ahead :)

Glossy Box will debut in early May, keep those fingers crossed!

For the bad news: PlayFish announced earlier today that come June 29, Restaurant City will be forever closed. I haven’t played this game in a while due to time but this is probably the first facebook game I played and really got into. When I was serious about, I had a great time hoarding ingredients, making recipes, and especially designing. I will definitely miss my restaurant and all the items I’ve collected :( EA’s move behind this is to retire older games to allow time to be spent working on newer games, ie: The Sims Social. Personally, I don’t think this is the greatest move. I heard they also retired/will be retiring Country Story as well. These were some of the most popular FB games and had a very large fan base. Angering fans who have carried the game this far will not make them any more inclined to play the newer games. What’s to say they won’t retire newer games down the road after you’ve spent more money on them? For old times sake, I’ll most likely play Restaurant City a bit before it officially closes :)

RIP RC, thanks for helping me pass the time away when I needed it to!

    So excited for Glossy Box!

    Thursday April 19th, 2012 at 10:04 pm

Glossy Box US is expected to make its debut in the US sometime soon. Like other beauty/make up subscription services, Glossy Box offers a box every month filled with 5 high-end beauty miniatures. Glossy Box has already been established in many other countries including UK, Canada, Taiwan, China, Korea, Australia, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and more. No news on what the US Glossy Box will include but from the looks of their foreign boxes, it looks absolutely amazing! Prices for the US box will run $21 per month, quite a bit higher than most subscription services. While $21 is definitely not what I was expecting/hoping for I’m still really wanting to give them a try and hope I can keep up with monthly subscriptions.

The first Glossy Box will only be available to select winners from their contests. New memberships will be open to the public for the second box. I was quite disappointed to not have won one from their email giveaways :( I kept checking my email repeatedly in hopes of attaining that one special email but had no luck. The email giveaway ended and I thought I was SOL.

Buuut, much to my luck, Glossy Box had their first twitter party today. It was also the first twitter party that I’ve been able to take part in. As a bonus, they announced that they would be giving away 2 glossy boxes. And for the big news….*drum rolls*….I WON ONE! :D

No idea yet on when the box will arrive but I’m guestimating next month as Glossy Box already announced they will be releasing in the Spring. For anyone interested in winning one of the last boxes, I believe they are still having their youtube video giveaway. More information can be found on their FB page

Reviews of the box will mostly definitely be up as soon as I receive the box.

    Thanks again to Glossy Box!

Dinner and a movie, just not in the same night.

    Thursday April 12th, 2012 at 9:25 pm

Dinner’s cooking on the stove, although it’s a little strange I’m not exactly hungry. I blame it on the brownie I had at work before I came home. There’s nothing too special for dinner tonight, just some good ol’ congee (rice porridge) and some side dishes I’m making. It’s easy and quick to make and also somewhat of a comfort food for me. One of my favorites is cucumber sprinkled with a bit of salt and a light drizzle of sesame oil mixed together. It may sound weird but it’s quite delicious. My mom used to make congee a lot when she didn’t feel like spending too much time on making dinner or when it’s cold. Lately it’s been quite cold, including tonight. Tennessee always has a cold front come in early to mid April after we’ve had weeks of fantastic weather. It’s supposed to be back in the 80s this weekend.

I went to go see Wrath of the Titans last night with a friend of mine. Overall, I’d say its a decent movie. I generally like movies about Roman/Greek mythology even if they end up being the same story. I probably wouldn’t say it was better than Immortals but still a decent watch. Wrath of the Titans follows the story of Perseus after he has slain the mighty Kraken and now faces the return of Kronos.

So, good news and semi-bad news today. The good news is I finally received my invitation to sign up for birch box. I snatched it up right away and I can’t wait. I’ve heard mixed feelings on birch box but they seem to be a great alternative to My Glam. I’m excited to be able to do reviews on both subscription services. I’ll most likely keep birch box for a while since it’s one of the more affordable and better services.

The semi-bad news is that Glossy Box recently announced their pricing, $21. I’ve been excited for Glossy Box since hearing about it, their foreign boxes look absolutely amazing. It makes me want to subscribe to those instead. At $21, Glossy Box US is already higher priced than most other countries. Australia, Canada, South Korea, and the UK all offer the box at around $15 USD, which would be a more reasonable and manageable price for me. The only thing I can factor in to the price difference at the moment is the currency exchange and the economy. China’s box is estimated at about $37 USD and that’s a lot of money in China. Nevertheless, I can’t wait to start Glossy Box, even if it’s for a little while. I’m hoping they will provide some of their foreign products to try, that would totally be worth it to me. I’ll most likely give up Beauty Army, which I don’t have a problem with and hold off on Sample Society. Ahhh..too many to try, I need a third job @_@. Glossy Box has also announced they will release memberships this spring, which pretty much only leaves May and June. Since their first box will be given away to prize winners, I see sign ups for the second box being available more towards June.
