Review: April Ipsy Bag

Friday April 18th, 2014 at 7:10 pm

I’ve been subscribing to ipsy (formally myglam) since their second bag and it’s one makeup/beauty subscription service that I refuse to cancel. They had a few rocky spots when they first launched but ipsy has quickly become of of the best services in the industry. Not only do you get a new makeup bag every month, but their bags are usually packed with full/travel sized makeup/beauty goodies and the price of $10 makes them one of the most affordable.

Contents Include:

1) Cover | Fix Mattifying Primer with Anti Acne Treatment (0.5 fl 0z)
2) Mary Kay Jelly Lip Gloss in Berry Me (.32 fl oz)
3) Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet (0.03 oz)
4) City Color White Gold Eyeshadow
5) Kiss Lashes in Flirty

I’m loving the bag this month! The makeup bag has a very cute, retro design although I don’t entirely like the material that the print is made from. To me, it feels like it’s the type of material where dust and other sediments attach easily to.

The eyeshadow and lip glass are great for spring and the upcoming summer. I’ve gotten several Urban Decay eye pencils in the past but I never say no to more. I love liquid eyeliners and gels more but these are very creamy and definitely one of my first picks for a eye pencil. I’ve seen some people get a hair spray product that I’m glad I did not receive. I think the lashes took their place? I have so many hair products that I don’t even know what to do with. The lashes are more useful and I like how these look natural and thick, it’s totally wearable for an everyday look. I haven’t tried the primer yet but I’ve been needing one so thanks ipsy for taking care of that for me!

Review: July Sample Society

Tuesday August 14th, 2012 at 9:59 pm

Oi, another late review o_o I have no idea why I procrastinate on my Sample Society reviews. There’s no bias against it, I swear haha.

Nevertheless…

Box contents for July include:

  • Borghese Tono Body Creme
  • VBeaute Eye Never Nourishing Repair Eye Creme
  • Sisley-Paris Hydra Global Intense Anti-Aging Hydration
  • Vincent Longo Duo Eye Pencil
  • Jouer Cosmetics Luminizing Moisture Tint SPF 20
  • July’s box was a little disappointing compared to June’s box, not to take anything away from it. There were 2 samples I received in it that I already had from previous boxes. (August also has better samples but you didn’t hear that me yet, shhhhh)

Sisley-Paris Hydra Global Intense Anti-Aging Hydration [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $250.00 (1.4 oz)
Sample Society Value: $25.00 (0.14 oz)

Description: Specially developed to provide an all-round solution to the problem of skin dehydration — whether occasional or chronic – Hydra-Global helps reactivate the hydration mechanisms deep-down in the skin, by encouraging the circulation of water as well as its retention.

This is a light, fairly odorless creme that’s supposed to help with hydrating your skin while revitalizing your skin to prevent anti-aging lines. It’s smooth and I like the way it feels on my skin but the full size is way out of my price range unfortunately.

    Borghese Tono Body Creme [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $47.50 (7.0 oz)
Sample Society Value: $6.78 (1 oz)

Description: An extra-rich treatment creme that locks in hydration with moisture intensifying molecules. The body is veiled in invisible moisture, which becomes obvious in both the appearance and texture of the skin. Firms and smoothes skin tone.

This is a pretty good sample with nice packaging. I can’t say too much about the scent. It’s not anything fragrant but there’s definitely a scent to it, kinda medicinal in a way? As far as how it feels, it’s soothing and creamy. I’m glad it’s not oily so it actually feels hydrating.

Jouer Cosmetics Luminizing Moisture Tint SPF 20 [Purchase]

Actual Value: $38.00 (1.7 fl oz)
Sample Society Value: $3.80 (0.17 fl oz)

Description: This lightweight moisturizing tint evens out imperfections and fades the appearance of fine lines with its light-diffusing multi-mineral formula. SPF 20 protects from UVA and UVB rays while Ginseng and Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract deliver antioxidants to skin, promoting a healthy complexion.

I received this exact same sample in my July Birch Box so there’s not a lot I have left to say on it other than it’s nice to have more? This is a nice moisturizing tint. Like I said before, it matches my skin tone very well. The only disappointing part is there isn’t a lot of the sample in the tube and it’s a little hard to get out. This is over twice as big as my BB sample though so maybe it will be nicer to me.

VBeaute Eye Never Nourishing Repair Eye Creme [Purchase]

Actual Value: $85.00 (0.5 fl oz)
Sample Society Value: $5.61 (0.033 fl oz)

Description: Eye Never Nourishing Repair Eye Creme is like an eyelift in a jar. An age-defying, line-concealing eye cream that immediately smoothes and silkens the delicate skin around your eyes. Caffeine minimizes the appearance of puffiness, BioCellular Peptide and Sensytens correct lines and wrinkles, and Nylon 12 leaves you looking instantly younger.

This is another duplicate for me, I received this one in my June Glossy Box except it came as part of a set of 3. The downside to subscribing to so many services is eventually you end up with a lot of duplicates. It seems a lot of these companies work with multiple companies to get their products out, makes sense. I haven’t even used the first one, I wish the sample size was better but I’ve heard these products work great. With that price range, I would hope so.

Vincent Longo Duo Eye Pencil [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $26.00
    Sample Society Value: $26.00

Description: Using two shades of eye pencil is a professional technique and easy makeup tip for creating intense and smoldering eyes. Combined complimentary shades encourage maximum creativity and remove the guess work for fast and easy application. A must have for every makeup bag.

I love this one, it’s definitely my favorite product out of the bag. It’s very smooth and has rich colors. I have no idea what I would use the red for (Halloween costume?) but the white glimmer can double as an eye liner.

    Total Value: $67.19

    Review: July Glossy Box

    Thursday August 2nd, 2012 at 7:35 pm

It’s a little hard trying to write a review while watching the Olympics @_@ Anyone else keeping up with the Olympics right now? I’m waiting for the women’s gymnastics to start. It’s a little sad to see China doing poorly in women’s gymnastics this year. While I’m all for Team USA (and I hope those two girls both get the gold!) I’ve always enjoyed watching China compete as well and a little part of me cheers for them.

    My fourth Glossy Box is here, time sure does fly when you’re having fun. I don’t have anything new to say on Glossy Box this month except maybe please look into a better shipping service ;_;

    Box contents for July include:

  • Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm
  • Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Shampoo
  • Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Conditioner
  • Figs & Rouge Lip, Face and Body Balm
  • Senna Cosmetics Mineral Eyes Shadow Trio
  • Blushed Fragrance by Ruddy Water
  • July’s theme is Summer Nights.

After a sizzling day in the sun, there is nothing better than a cool summer night. This month’s GLOSSYBOX offers you the essentials you’ll need to indulge in products that show off your sun kissed skin and hair and enhance sultry eyes. Afterwards, throw on your sexy sandals and dance the night away under the shimmering summer sky.

July’s box features 5 items and one bonus item.

Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $18.50 (100 ml)
Glossy Box Value: $5.55 (30 ml)

Description: The ultimate savior for rough, dry feet! This luxurious cream, enriched with MarinaVital complex, helps prevent the build-up of hard skin with long lasting results. The soothing and effective combination of shea butter, allantoin and tea tree oil provides intensive protection and nourishes skin, leaving it soft and supple.

Originally from Germany, the Pedix Heel Rescue Balm is a perfect solution for helping to soothe out feet. This is one of the more useful items I found in July’s box. While my heels are not terribly dry and cracked, the balm helps to make them smoother and more healthy. Outside of sites like Amazon and eBay, I’m not sure where else you can purchase this item in the US. The line also features other products to help achieve better looking feet such as foot masks, energy pads, heel smoothing sticks, and more.

Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Shampoo [Purchase (Travel Size)]

    Actual Value: $14.95 (8.4 oz)
Glossy Box Value: $3.02 (1.7 oz)

Description: Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Shampoo’s smart color moisture complex targets color-treated strands, to deeply moisturize where needed most.

This is another one that you’ll probably have better luck finding on Amazon and eBay although Ulta sells a travel size for $4.49. This a decent sized shampoo sample and it smells great. The only problem? I don’t have highlighted and multi-colored hair. Sadly this product won’t do anything for me but it’s supposed to help maintain healthy hair while giving long lasting color and shine.

Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Conditioner [Purchase (Travel Size)]

    Actual Value: $16.95 (6.6 oz)
Glossy Box Value: $4.23 (1.65 oz)

Description: Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Conditioner’s whipped foam micro-bubbles spread around every hair fiber, restructuring hair’s condition for long-lasting color shine and vibrancy.

The conditioner packaging has a very sleek design, just look at that interesting pump. I’m glad Glossy Box gave both a shampoo and conditioner sample to go hand in hand, but again….I don’t have highlighted and multi-colored hair.

I might give these to a friend of mine if she wants them so they don’t go to waste but I wish the boxes were more personal so I don’t receive two items that I won’t be able to use at all.

Figs & Rouge Lip, Face and Body Balm [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $6.00 (0.26 oz)
Glossy Box Value: $6.00 (0.26 oz)

Description: A 100% organic, 100% pure, 100% natural skincare product! Vitamin enriched organic essential oils, pure nourishing shea butters and natures best organic bees wax. This is our award winning formulation made to deliver the best and most effective moisturizing and natural balm for all skin types.

I’ve heard pretty good reviews for this product so it’s exciting to be able to try it out myself. Figs and Rouge balms are completely 100% organic and great for skin. These balms can be used just about anywhere although I will most likely use it as a lip balm only. You can use it to help with dry, cracked feet, help to treat cuticles and nails, help to treat dry hands, and help with flaky skin. You can also use it in your hair to soothe out those loose ends that pop up every now and then.

The sample comes in sweet geranium, which has a sharp, floral scent but you can also purchase the balm in a variety of other scents such as: rambling rose, peppermint and tea tree, pomegranate, aloe and mint, wild cherry, and coco vanilla. This is another product you will probably end up having to go to Amazon and eBay to purchase.

Senna Cosmetics Mineral Eyes Shadow Trio in Cocoa Nudes [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $24.00 (0.14 oz)
Glossy Box Value: $24.00 (0.14 oz)

Description: Highlight, contour and line in one easy compact. Silky textured pressed mineral eye shadows in metallic and softly matte colors give a hypnotic jeweled or muted, polished finish and amazing dimension.

Everyone either received an eye shadow set or a lip gloss set. Personally, I was hoping for the lip glosses. I might have boxes of lip glosses lying around but I use them a lot more than I do eyeshadows. This is a cute palette, it’s very easy to carry. The Mineral Eyes Shadow Trio sets either come in metallic or matte. I’m glad mine came in matte, I don’t know what I would do with metallic colors. The Cocoa Nudes pallete comes in the following colors: matte neutral cream, taupe, and rich chocolate.

Blushed Fragrance by Ruddy Water [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $22.00 (24 count)
Glossy Box Value: 0.92 (1 count)

Description: A fragranced towelette featuring notes of bright red currant and rich vanilla, wrapped around subtle sweet lemon, slightly spicy ginger, and kissed with a hint of sugar. This inviting fragrance will mingle with you throughout the day.

This was an extra item in the box. I’m okay with it but I probably won’t use it. It has a very heavy and sharp fragrance that I don’t particularly care for. These are handy to carry around. If I ever find these in a fragrance I like, I wouldn’t mind purchasing some. It’s a nice alternative to perfume or to carry with you for an easy freshening up on a night out.

    Total Value: $43.72

    Review: Summer Influenster Vox Box

    Sunday July 29th, 2012 at 9:59 pm

I received my Summer Influenster VoxBox a while ago so this is a bit late. I have to say, I was excited to know I was receiving a box after missing out on the Spring Vox Box, which was amazing.

So what is Influenster? Influenster is not a subscription service, you don’t pay a monthly subscription fee and then sent a box. Instead, boxes are sent out to qualifying members based on badges earned, demographics, and internal influence scores. Members who are qualified then receive an official notification and upon acceptance, are shipped the next Vox Box.

The more badges you earn, the higher chance you have of receiving a box. On top of the badges earned for completing surveys about yourself, you can also earn badges from completing challenges based on Vox Boxes received. Those that complete the required amount from the challenge are automatically eligible for the following Vox Box.

The Summer Vox Box came with a variety of products. Mine arrived a little beat up but the products came all intact with no major problems.

Contents for the Summer Vox Box include:

  • Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion
  • Tampax and Always Radiant Collection
  • Quaker Soft Baked Bars in Banana Nut Bread
  • Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color
  • Sally Hansen Nails and Cuticles Hand Creme
  • Based on demographics, select influensters also received the Clear Scalp and Hair Beauty Therapy, which I did not receive.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion [Purchase]

Actual Value: $9.99 (6 fl oz)
Vox Box Value: $3.33 (2 fl oz)

Description: With its ultra-luxurious hydrating silk ribbons, Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration lotion sunscreen nourishes and pampers skin while providing broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection, and 12 hour moisturization when out in the sun.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion has a very sweet, tropical fruit smell. I can definitely smell a bit of coconut and maybe some pineapple plus various other fruits. I don’t dislike the scent but it is too strong for my liking. I probably won’t be able to use this lotion all over my body. The lotion is great if you just want some extra sun protection when going outside but I wouldn’t recommend using this in water even if it doubles as a sunscreen.

Tampax and Always Radiant Collection [Purchase]

Actual Value: $10.77 (Tampax Radiant Unscented Tampons (16 ct), Always Radiant Infinity Regular with Wings Fresh Scented Pads (16 ct), Always Radiant Incredibly Unscented Thin Liners (64 ct))
Vox Box Value: Less than $1.00 (Tampax Radiant Unscented Tampons (2 ct), Always Radiant Infinity Regular with Wings Fresh Scented Pads (1 ct), Always Radiant Incredibly Unscented Thin Liners (1 ct))

Description: Tampax and Always have come together to premiere the all-new, stylish Radiant Collection, a complete offering of premium tampons, pads, liners, and wipes that meets all of a woman’s feminine care needs. With designer packaging and wrappers, these products are must-have accessories for that time of the month.

You can also choose to purchase each individual item separately. I thought this was a pretty random addition to the bag. Outside of the products, there is also a coupon book and everything was received inside a beautiful purple/magenta pouch that can be used as either a makeup bag, feminine needs bag, or clutch.

Quaker Soft Baked Bars in Banana Nut Bread [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $3.29 (5 pack)
Vox Box Value: $0.66 (1 pack)

Description: Made with real bananas and almonds, Quaker Soft Bars in Banana Nut Bread flavor have tasty ingredients to help provide fuel to start your day. 5g Fiber, 20% daily value of 5 B Vitamins and 6g of protein!

I gobbled this one up pretty quickly, I love banana nut bread. The bar is a little dry but very chewy and definitely delicious. It would make a great healthy alternative for breakfast or as a snack. You can also request a free sample from Wal-Mart’s website. The bars are also available in Cinnamon Roll Raisin pecan, how good does that sound? I didn’t provide a purchase link since you can find these in just about any grocery store or you can also buy them in bulk from Amazon.

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color [Purchase]

Actual Value: $8.99 (0.31 fl oz)
Vox Box Value: $8.99 (0.31 fl oz)

Description: Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color is summer’s hottest nail trend that allows you to create a gorgeous 3D nail art effect in just seconds! This unique formula was specifically developed with metallic purposes – just hold the built in magnet over wet nail polish to reveal a unique design on the nail.

I’m pretty sure this is a full sized sample of the product although I couldn’t find how much came in a full size. This isn’t your normal nail polish. Sally Hansen’s Nail Color comes with a built in magnet to help achieve that 3D look on your nails. Just hold the built in magnet to the nail polish for about 10 seconds to watch the effect.

Sally Hansen Nails and Cuticles Hand Creme [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $5.99 (3.4 oz)
Vox Box Value: $1.76 (1 oz)

Description: Made with shea butter, the Sally Hansen Nails and Cuticles Creme softens hands, smooths cuticles and conditions nails. Active moisturizer complex formula with Ceramides helps to lock in nutrients so hands maintain their ideal moisturizer level. Offers 24 hour moisturizer and lasts through hand washings!

The hand creme is bit greasy but comes in a nice, lemony fresh scent. For its price, it works great on hands/cuticles. If you use it regularly, you should be able to see a difference within a week or two.

    Total Value: Approximately $15.74

Personally, I think the Spring Vox Box is much better but I didn’t sign up in time to receive it. While the summer vox box is nice, there aren’t too many products in it that I can use. I’m not a huge nail polish person and I already have cuticle creme from Julep. The Hawaiian lotion’s scent is a bit too strong for me and I’m not entirely fond of it. I also don’t use tampons so I’m sure those will be give away o_O Ahh…there’s always next time. Thanks influenster for sending me a box anyway! I had a great time reviewing it.

    My Look Bag Experience

    Saturday July 28th, 2012 at 12:38 am

I said during my last The Look Bag review that I was having some issues and I wasn’t going to go into detail until I reached a conclusion. The Look Bag pretty much made that conclusion for me. Last week on July 18, The Look Bag announced suddenly that they were going to discontinue the service and focus more on The Look Store.

I originally signed up for the service back in May to give it a try. It wasn’t something I expected to keep and I was going to cancel by the time Glossy Box rolled around to save money. After I received my first bag, I knew I had to keep it. $10 extra a month was more than worth it. On top of quality sized samples and brands, The Look Bag was one of the few companies that did not skimp on shipping. With them shipping First Class, I always received my bag within 2-3 business days as opposed to almost 2 weeks with every other service I subscribe to minus Sample Society.

The following month, The Look Bag started running into a few issues. I was lucky enough to not have much of it affect me. Bags went out a bit late this month due to them getting a shipment in late, which was okay with me. I still received my bag around the middle of the month. The only issue I had this month was having to deal with my bag being shipped to my billing address. It isn’t a huge problem but quite an inconvenience as my billing address isn’t close to where I live. I still received my bag just fine, loved it, and moved on.

July came with more problems even though The Look Bag had said in June that they were growing. One morning, I received an email saying that my account had been canceled back in June. I assumed this was a glitch but decided to check my credit card statement anyway. I never noticed it before but I had not been charged for July.

I checked Face Book and many people received the same email. I left a message on their wall saying that I had received an email and that I wasn’t concerned but I wanted to know why I was not charged. I also mentioned my bag last month was shipped to my billing address and I did not want it to happen again. Not too long afterwards, my post along with everyone else’s post was deleted. Anyone who had mentioned they received a cancellation/expired email had their posts deleted after The Look Bag posted a message saying that they were working with IT on fixing this system wide glitch.

Personally, I find for a company to delete Face Book posts very unprofessional. In addition, not only did I say I was not concerned about the email but I wanted to know why I was not charged. My question was not answered. I then posted a short comment on one of their posts asking why I had not been charged. Someone from The Look Bag responded quickly telling me to not worry because I will get a bag.

This didn’t answer my question but I decided to put faith into them. If they say I’m getting a bag then I’m getting a bag right?

I then tried getting in touch with customer service later that day at work, not because of the email but because:

  • I had not been charged and they charge the 1st of every month
  • I wanted to make sure the bag will not be sent again to my billing address.
  • I called several times that day at different times and no one picked up. Several phone calls later, I was getting tired of redialing.

Somewhere during all of this, The Look Bag disabled their Face Book wall completely. Anyone outside of The Look Bag was not able to post anymore to their page. In response to the negativity, The Look Bag said that all customer services issues should be taken care of via phone or email. They wanted to use Face Book for contests, giveaways, user participation, upcoming beauty trends, and blogs. Any further issues on the Face Book were either deleted or responded with a simple “Please call customer service”.

This would not be a problem if it wasn’t for the fact that CS was almost entirely unreachable and that they were not returning many calls, if any. I decided to send an email hoping to have better results. Someone replied quickly but the answer seemed to be a copy and paste.

Again, my questions were not addressed and all I was told was that I’m going to receive a bag this month.

Six days later with few updates, minus the fact that shipping would start on the following week, The Look Bag announced that they had though long and hard and their final decision was to discontinue The Look Bag while they refocus on The Look Store. Anyone who had paid would receive a July bag and anyone who has not paid would not be receiving one.

Of course I’m one of the people who never paid because I was never charged. During this time, all of my efforts to figure out why I was not charged didn’t get me anywhere. No one was willing to tell me why I had not been charged. While it may not be the case, I can’t help but feel like I was getting the “you will get a bag” response as a way to shut me up. Twice I was told that I will definitely get a bag, which proved nothing to be a lie. This was absolutely ridiculous. Don’t make promises you can’t keep!!!

I really liked The Look Bag but unfortunately, situations like this makes my experience very sour. They had horrible customer service and in my case, non-existant customer service. I don’t know what problems they were having internally but I don’t know of any starter company that doesn’t run into some problems. Anyone who has had experience with My Glam know they had a rocky few months but they stuck with it, worked through it, and are now well on their way to being a reputable company.

The Look Bag has every right to decide on what they want to do but regardless of the decision, I feel like the customers should still be important. Once they made a decision to cancel, no one seemed to matter to them. They took care of the people who paid whether it was because it’s easier than refunding money or if they felt like they had some type of obligation but paid little or no attention to those who did not.

I liked The Look bag well enough to say that if in the future they decide to reinstate their service, I will definitely consider trying it again. However, with the way things were handled and how I was not able to get any form of customer service even though I tried all of my options, I will definitely not be purchasing anything from The Look Store.

On the bright side, at least I’m $10 richer a month? However, now I’m looking into Wish Box and they are around $30-$40 a month but filled with some awesome Korean goodies. I need more money to spend x_x

UPDATE: The Look Bag has announced on August 3 that they will continue The Look Bag by September 1 due to “overwhelming demand”. This sudden decision to be back after everything they’ve done/said makes me a bit iffy but I did say if they came back, I would give them a second chance. Here’s to hopefully less shit happening the second time around.

    Review: July My Glam Bag

    Monday July 16th, 2012 at 11:07 pm

Like what you see below? Be sure to enter my giveaway for a chance to win a bag of your own! (or another one if you already have one) Click to enter. Giveaway ends August 1, 2012.

When I first heard My Glam changed their shipping facility to North Carolina, I was super happy. If it’s one state over, it should get to me a lot quicker right? Eh, not so much.

Maybe it’s the shipping, maybe the post office juts doesn’t like me. Maybe it has to do with the fact that this month’s bag had to be shipped ground due to the nail polish not being air friendly. We’ll have to see next month. In the past, it’s taken me about 7-9 days for me to receive my bag from CA. One state over and it still takes me almost a week to get. I guess it’s somewhat of an improvement but people in the mid-west, west coast, and even Hawaii receive their’s first :(

Their blog states that since they’ve now moved to the east coast, west coast will be shipped first. They used the same shipping method back in CA, but in reverse, except mine was never shipped earlier than the west coast.

I know, I know…I’m impatient. It was never one of my virtues.

Anyhow, My Glam previously promised on Twitter that June and July’s bags were going to be awesome and I’m so happy that they did not dissapoint! The products in this months bag not only came in generous sample sizes, but also are all very useful.

    Bag contents for July include:

  • Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Lotion
  • Yes To Cucumbers On-the-Go Facial Towelettes
  • NuMe HydroPunch Hydrating Conditioner
  • Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Starr
  • Circus by Andrea’s Choice in Reverso
  • July’s Glam bag comes in this colorful see through design, much like a beach bag. This bright, mesh bag is great for summer and to take on those beach/pool trips. The bag this month came with 2 OR items.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Lotion [Purchase]

Actual Value: $26.00 (4.2 fl oz)
My Glam Value: $6.19 (1 fl oz)

Description: Our Ultra Facial Oil-Free Lotion is a lightweight moisturizing lotion that helps visibly reduce excess oil on skin’s surface, leaving a shine-free and balanced appearance. It is non-greasy, and retains essential moisture in skin for a healthier, rebalanced skin barrier. A complex of hydrating ingredients – Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract, Antarcticine and Vitamin E – helps keep skin fresh and healthier looking all day. Oil-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free, colorant-free.

The lotion smells a bit like alcohol but other that that, this is a pretty refreshing lotion for your skin. My skin is still kind of shiny/oily after using but I like the way it feels. If you have oily skin, I would recommend trying this out. Results seem to vary from person to person. A little of this goes a long way, you don’t need to over do it. It also makes a great base before makeup to ensure your skin stays moisturized.

    NuMe HydroPunch Hydrating Conditioner [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $24.00 (8.45 oz)
My Glam Value: $1.90 (0.67 oz)

Description: Made with naturally strengthening Bamboo, your hair is instantly detangled as sage extract and Jojoba oil increase the softness level of your hair. This formula is enriched with the SERATIN-K Patented Technology, an active, protein-based complex shown to provide excellent moisture, binding capacity, and hair follicle nourishment for a smooth and silky feel. Natural Argan oil from Morocco contains exceptionally high levels of essential fatty acids, such as linoleic acid (omega-6), for countering dryness in hair and loss of elasticity while preventing dull hair and split ends. A powerful antioxidant agent mends damage caused by weather or harsh chemicals. Healthy Vitamin E helps to regain shine and a gorgeous, vibrant look.

Yum, another hair product in which I love the way it smells. I will consider purchasing a full size one of these in the future. I like the way it feels on my hair, it doesn’t weight it down nor does it leave it looking oily. Summer months mean it’s very important to be taking care of your hair on top of the normal shampoo/conditioner. NuMe offers a wide range of hair products to help maintain a healthy looking style.

Yes To Cucumbers On-the-Go Facial Towelettes [Purchase]

    Review: July Birch Box

    Monday July 16th, 2012 at 12:32 am

July’s Birch Box is definitely an improvement in my opinion, at least for me. This was the one month that I did not take a sneak peak into what’s in my box before it arrived and I have to say I am quite pleased.

    Box contents for July include:

  • Beauty Blender Original
  • Harvey Prince Hello Perfume Sample
  • Jouer Luminizing Moisturizer Tint in Bronze
  • Stila Lip Glaze in Camera
  • Extras include:

  • Tea Forte Minteas Mints in Cocoa Mint
  • Birch Box Exclusive Earbuds
  • July’s box is all about glamour, who doesn’t love that? There’s a wide assortment of products ranging from makeup to skin care to hair care that’s all focused on helping to make yourself more glamorous.

    Beauty Blender Original [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $25.95 (2 pack) $19.95 (single)
    Birch Box Value: $19.95 (single)

Description: This hot pink sponge fits the natural curves of your face for flawless makeup application.

I’ve heard great things about beauty blenders and wanted to try one but since they’re not exactly cheap, it was never high on my list of things to get. Being broke sometimes sucks :( Much love to Birch Box for providing me one! I haven’t tried any other beauty blenders but this one works well. It’s very soft, blends with no problems, and is easy to clean.

Harvey Prince Hello Perfume Sample [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $55.00 (1.7 oz)
    Birch Box Value: Not listed

Description: Harvey Prince is thrilled to bring you a splash of spring with our latest, hippest, most energizing fragrance, “Hello.” With a twist of citrus in homage to that fresh squeezed glass on the breakfast table, the subtle yet invigorating notes are layered with Summer Forsythia, an early Spring floral, to bring out the blossoming glow within you. As the scent wears through the day, you’ll be warmly greeted with the enchanting smell of Pink Plumerias, found in the fragrant floral Leis of Hawaii bestowed upon guests, friends, and loved ones.

This is a cheery fragrance for spring/summer. It’s slightly bigger than most perfume samples I receive, but not by a whole lot. It comes with an easy to use spray, which is always nice. The size isn’t listed on the product, which I dislike. I can’t say if I dislike or like the fragrance, I’m kind of indifferent on it. It has some nice florals in it but is not “refreshing” or “welcoming” as the descriptions says.

Jouer Luminizing Moisturizer Tint in Bronze [Purchase]

Actual Value: $38.00 (1.7 fl oz)
Birch Box Value: $1.56 (0.07 fl oz)

Description: This lightweight moisturizing tint evens out imperfections and fades the appearance of fine lines with its light-diffusing multi-mineral formula. SPF 20 protects from UVA and UVB rays while Ginseng and Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract deliver antioxidants to skin, promoting a healthy complexion.

Props to BB on this one, it matched my skin tone perfectly. I can’t tell too much of a difference on my skin other than the fact it makes it look more fresh and dewy. The moisturizer blends in well on my skin leaving it with a light glossy shine.

Stila Lip Glaze in Camera [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $12.00 (3 pack)
    Birch Box Value: $4.00 (single)

Description: This sparkly gloss from the limited edition It’s Go Time Lip Glaze Trio combines sheer color with mega-watt shine.

This trio is created by stila and Birch Box and can only be purchased at birchbox.com. It took me a couple minutes to figure out how to use this. The brush applicator is so soft, making the application smooth and easy. This thick, rich gloss adds a nice shine and can be used by itself or with a lipstick. Camera comes in a pearly gold-red and tastes like a wide assortment of mixed berries.

Tea Forte Minteas Mints in Cocoa Mate [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $2.99 (1 pack)
Birch Box Value: $2.99 (1 pack)

Description: New and improved BIGGER mint for even more flavor! A few functional ingredients that make minteas the mints with a difference. Small pocket sized tins – a convenient way for you to embrace a life of health and wellness.

I was really excited to see tea mints given how much I love tea but the cocoa flavor really takes it away from me. I’m not a really big fan of coffee or coffee flavored products. The mints taste better than they look. I haven’t noticed a change in energy level after eating a few of them but energy type drinks, products, pills, etc have never really had much effect on me.

    Birch Box Exclusive Earbuds [Purchase]

    Actual Value: –
    Birch Box Value: –

Description: Whether we’re jogging through the park or powering through a laptop session, earbuds are one of our constant accessories. So we started thinking: why stick with the same boring white pair we’ve been using for years? We designed these custom pink and green or pink and blue neon earbuds so we can rock out to our favorite tunes in style. They’re extra-durable and extra-comfy—now that’s music to our ears.

It doesn’t seem like you can purchase these, even from the Birch Box website. Funny enough, these are probably the most useful item in this month’s box for me. I recently bought some cheap headphones on ebay that keep breaking (go figure) and never got around to buying a decent pair. While these are not really my style, I’m definitely happy it saves me the trouble of having to buy a pair. I also love how the color scheme of these headphones match the tissue paper/color scheme of this month’s box.

Total Value: $28.50 (not including Harvey Prince’s Hello perfume sample and the earphones)

    Review: June Look Bag

    Thursday July 12th, 2012 at 11:18 pm

Another catch up post, finally. I’ve had this bag for a month now and haven’t had chance to writing a blog entry about it. I’m currently having some issues with The Look Bag but I’m going to try and not let it affect my posts nor will I go too much into it until I reach a conclusion. I love The Look Bag enough to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope everything will be okay for this month and moving forward :) If not…then we’ll have to see.

June’s Look Bag is another one that I love! This is still one of my favorite services and one that I look forward to every month. The only issue I had in June was that the bag was shipped to my billing address instead of my shipping address for some reason. I know they had a bit of a problem getting everything on time in June so I wonder if that had something to do with it. While it’s not a huge problem, it’s still quite an inconvenience and I hope it was just a mistake. I’ve checked my account and my shipping address hasn’t changed.

    Bag contents for June include:

  • Atopalm Intensive Moisturizing Cream
  • Snowberry Cellular Regeneration Night Cream
  • Korres Eyeshadow Sunflower & Evening Primrose in 24 Gold
  • Prescriptives Lip and Eye Pencil Sharpener
  • Korres Natural Products Wild Rose Cream
  • Excuse the random strand of hair on the card. I didn’t notice it until I was editting the images. My hair tends to shed ^^;

June’s bag theme is all about taking care of your skin during these hot, summer months. Products in this bag will help to hydrate and moisturize your skin.

This month’s bag also had some added padding for shipping since it seems many people were receiving damaged products due to lack of packaging. The bags were shipped in an additional bubble wrap packing bag.

    Atopalm Intensive Moisturizing Cream [Purchase]

Actual Value: $32.50 (3.4 fl oz)
Look Bag Value: $2.39 (0.25 fl oz)

Description: This unique, paraben free formula, containing plant derived ingredients, mimics the structure of the natural skin lipids and aids in the replenishment of the loss of natural skin lipids. This cream helps to boost the skin’s barrier function while protecting it from environmental stresses. The moisturizer leaves the skin feeling soft and supple.

The sample is small but a little of this will go a long way so I see this lasting me several uses at the very least. What I love about this is that not only is it non-greasy, but it also is perfect for my skin type. The cream is easily absorbed into my skin. Within seconds, I can’t even feel it on my skin anymore.

Snowberry Cellular Regeneration Night Cream [Purchase]

Actual Value: $102.00 (1.7 fl oz)
Look Bag Value: $8.40 (0.14 fl oz)

Description: Refresh your skin every night! A truly great night cream should do much more than simply moisturize. Including the superfruit extract Wolfberry with its 19 amino acids and 21 vital minerals, Snowberry’s Cellular Regeneration Night Cream is designed to perfectly complement the Day Creams, by gently and naturally repairing skin, and replenishing lost nutrients. For this reason, Snowberry’s Night cream contains a very high proportion of marine glycoproteins, supported by a potent blend of natural antioxidants including Pomegranate, Meadowfoam and Melon Extract that together, help to neutralize the free radicals created by exposure to the sun, dietary and environmental pollutants. Suitable for all skin types, apply after the eye and face serums have been absorbed through the skin.

Snowberry’s night cream is great to use before bed. The sample comes in a very cute packaging with an easy to use pump. The night cream is rather pricey but you get what you pay for?

Prescriptives Lip and Eye Pencil Sharpener [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $3.00
    Look Bag Value: $3.00

    Description: –

There’s not a whole lot to say about this, it’s a eye and lip pencil sharpener. I wish I hadn’t bought one from Sephora a while back given I never use it and now I have this one. It’s works well enough and the price isn’t bad but I’ve seen cheaper.

Korres Eyeshadow Sunflower & Evening Primrose in 24 Gold [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $17.00 (0.06 oz)
Look Bag Value: $17.00 (0.06 oz)

    Description: –

This is a full sized sample of the product but it seems like it’s been discontinued. I don’t actually know the price of the eye shadow but from what I’ve gathered online, it was originally $17 and eventually went to a $6-7 sale price. The line also seems to be a Sephora exclusive and came in 6 different shades. 24 Gold is a light, shimmery bronze/champagne gold color. I love these eyeshadows from The Look Bag but I wish it wasn’t always discontinued :( You might still be able to find these on eBay.

Korres Natural Products Wild Rose Cream [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $35.00 (1.4 oz)
Look Bag Value: $17.00 (0.68 oz)

Description: A cream that moisturizes and brightens the skin. This cream is formulated with a range of ingredients that moisturize and brighten the complexion. Wild rose oil, a natural source of vitamin C, helps repair the look of fine lines and skin discolorations. Imperata-cylindrica extract, derrived from a desert plant, is known for its ability to provide continuous moisturization by regulating the moisture equilibrium of the skin.

The fifth item this month was based on your beauty profile answers. I’m not sure what I answered for mine but I am quite pleased with my product. Korres Natural Products is Greece’s fastest growing natural skincare company. I’m a bit cautious of rose scented items since a lot of the ones I come across either smell nothing like roses or the scent is too overpowering. This one is in the middle and I think it smells very much like a rose. The moisturizer has a semi-thick consistency but it’s absorbed into my skin fairly easily. I may consider purchasing a full sized product in the future. To use, apply to your face and neck after cleansing.

Total Value: $47.79 (if the eyeshadow is worth $17)

    Review: June Glossy Box

    Saturday July 7th, 2012 at 2:39 am

I originally was going to do July’s Sample Society as my next review but after finally receiving my Glossy Box today, I couldn’t help but dig into this one!

Glossy Box has had a rough couple of start up months, mostly because of their methods. One of the biggest complaints was their billing and shipping. The way it worked caused people to be billed before even receiving previous month’s box due to to the shipping being so slow. Glossy Box sent out the following email today:

As an update, Glossy Box will now bill the second week of the month and ship the third week as opposed to billing the first week and shipping the last. Hopefully, this means I’ll receive my box before the month is over. I personally did not care too much about the billing and shipping, as long as I received my box but I’m very glad Glossy Box has made efforts to listen to its customers. Change is not always immediate and takes time, but thank you Glossy Box for taking feedback from your customers! Now if only they could fix that shipping…:P

    Box contents for June include:

  • Ahava Mineral Botanic Hibiscus & Fig Velvet Cream Wash
  • First Aid Beauty Smooth Shave Cream
  • Ofra Cosmetics Eye Shadow ICE in Goldilocks
  • vBeaute Lite up, Buying Time, and Eye Never
  • Wella Professionals Enrich Moisturizing Treatment
  • Extras Include:

  • A Perfume Organic Urban Organic Perfume
  • June’s Glossy Box theme is “Summer Simplicity”. Now that summer is upon is, taking care of your skin and hair is very important. Is anyone else having a massive heat wave? It’s been over 100 degrees almost every single day, if not close it. My skin is dry to begin with and the weather is not helping.

June also marks the debut of the Glossy Mag! The mini magazine is filled with trends, news, tips, and articles perfect for that month. I’m not sure if this will be a reoccuring thing every month but I hope it is.

First Aid Beauty Smooth Shave Cream [Purchase]

Actual Value: $7.50 (2.0 fl oz)
Glossy Box Value: $7.50 (2.0 fl oz)

Description: FAB Smooth Shave Cream is rich, nourishing and non-irritating and contains everything you need to obtain a close, long-lasting shave. FAB Smooth Shave Cream minimizes nics and razor irritation and includes ingredients to soften, smooth and moisturize. Say goodbye to rough, dry legs forever. Infused with FAB Antioxidant Booster to combat free radicals.

This is a full sized sample although you can buy a larger version of it, it comes in a 6.8 oz for $16.50. I haven’t had a chance to use it but I’m rather excited to try the product. My legs are probably the driest part of my body. The shaving cream is odorless and has a rather thick consistency to it. I probably wouldn’t have expected shaving cream in a box but I think I’m in need of some more anyway.

Ahava Mineral Botanic Hibiscus & Fig Velvet Cream Wash [Purchase]

Actual Value: $23.00 (17 fl oz)
Glossy Box Value: $4.06 (3 fl oz)

Description: Body wash gently cleanses your skin without stripping it of natural moisture. Mineral Botanic Velvet Cream Wash for Normal to Dry Skin by Ahava soothes and moisturizes with a blend of Dead Sea minerals, macadamia oil and organic plant extracts to reveal healthy, glowing skin. SLS/SLES-free (harsh detergents). Approved for sensitive skin. Allergy tested.

A lot of people have had bad luck with this product arriving in one piece. The cap seems to be not as sturdy as it looks causing the item to spill all over the box. I’ve been fortunate enough to not have the issue and am very grateful for. It was something I was worried about. I am absolutely in love with this wash, it smells heavenly. Can anyone else tell by now smell is very important to me? Anyhoo, the hibiscus in this really is amazing, I’ll have to keep this in mind when I run out of body wash.

Wella Professionals Enrich Moisturizing Treatment [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $13.60 (150 ml)
Glossy Box Value: $2.27 (25 fl oz)

Description: Wella Professionals Enrich Moisturising Treatment for Fine to Normal Hair is a nourishing mask especially created for dry and damaged fine hair. This high performance treatment works to restore damaged hair, with ingredients such as silk extract and shea butter. Hair is repaired, protected and deeply hydrated without being weighed down for a silky soft, radiant and manageable finish.

This is another product which I really love the smell of, it’s sweet. I’m not too sure how well this product will work for me but it sounds like something I would need. My hair is also very dry. I blame it on all the hot showers I take and the lack of treatment I do give it. I’m sure this will be perfect to use.

vBeaute Lite up, Buying Time, and Eye Never [Purchase: , Buying Time, and Eye Never]

Actual Value: $370.00 (for all 3)
Glossy Box Value: $13.15 (for all 3)

Description: Lite Up Intense Brightening Agent has the power to rev up your skin wattage no matter how life has dulled your glow. Alpine Rose Botanical Technology fights free radicals to maintain your porcelain beauty while Watercress Skin Lightening Complex and Niacinamide work to banish age spots, discoloration and surface blemishes. Oil free.

Eye Never Nourishing Repair Eye Crème is like an eyelift in a jar.

Buying Time Everyday Crème is twice as nice as any daily moisturizer you’ve ever encountered. It watches over your skin both day and night with powerful replenishing ingredients, including Alpine Rose Botanical Technology, BioCellular Peptide and Ceramide 2 and 3. Think of Buying Time as your round the clock way of putting time in your hands.

Each of the samples come in a 0.033 fl oz sized tube, I have to give someone props for the creative names for the products. The line is way to expensive for my budget but it does look nice. The line consists of different skin care products, which can be used at different times of the day/night to help with anti-aging.

Ofra Cosmetics Eye Shadow ICE in Goldilocks [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $14.95 (14 ml)
Glossy Box Value: $14.95 (14 ml)

Description: Eyeshadow ICE with primer. Incredible Continuing Eyeshadow results. An innovation from our OFRA Cosmetic laboratories are long lasting cream eye shadows. Hypoallergenic and is suitable for use in all weather conditions, Colors are so intense you only need to use small quantities and you control the richness of the intensity by applying the color on your eyes in layers. Because it includes a primer, it will last 8 hours without smudging or creasing. It will give your eyes a smoother brighter finish, which will make you stand out in a crowd. Perfect to use for special occasion where long lasting makeup is needed.

Another full sized sample, while I am glad its eyeshadow, the color doesn’t really suit me. This was one product where people received different colors. I know some people have gotten the black one, which I probably would have found more use for. Goldilocks comes in a shimmery bronzer color, it doesn’t differ too much from a bronzer in my opinion. Those who did not receive the eyeshadow received a mascara instead. The mascara would have been more useful for me :(

A Perfume Organic Urban Organic Perfume [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $65.00 (12 ml)
Glossy Box Value: $unknown (no size listed)

Description: A sweet lemon sorbet with bourbon, tangy lime peel, basil, and ginger. A daytime perfume, fresh and citrusy, lavender and grapefruit make the most delicious combination. Perfect for clearing the air during a walk in the city.

This was an extra included with the box this month, I actually don’t mind tiny perfume samples if they aren’t included as part of the item count for the box. I have too many of them stocked up anyway. I couldn’t find how big this sample is, it wasn’t listed. The scent is something different though. It’s not something I would wear. You can smell the lemon sorbet with ease, it’s very tangy and citrusy but I prefer floral/sweet scents. This one makes my nose cringe. I’ve never seen such a weird combination of smells before, it seems to be the type of fragrance someone older would wear.

Total Value: $34.43 (not including A Perfume Organic’s Urban Organic Perfume)
