Review: June Sample Society

Saturday July 7th, 2012 at 12:56 am

I can’t believe I’m a month behind on this *bad bad* I actually already received my July Sample Society today :/

Beauty Bar has teamed up with Allure magazine to bring you a beauty subscription service known as Sample Society. Every month you are promised 5 deluxe-sized samples to try for $15. While the price is slightly higher than that of My Glam, Birch Box, and the Look Bag..it’s definitely worth it. Along with the box every month, you also receive a 1 year subscription to Allure magazine at no extra cost and with every box you will receive a $15 gift card. As long as you purchase 1 item that was in your box to sample, you can use the gift card, thus making the box free!

Beauty Bar has been around since 2010 and since then, it has brought together many global luxury brands to its customers. You can find almost everything you need with the click of a mouse. BB offers a great and easy way to discover new products and their store is always growing.

June’s Sample Society box was my first one. Much like The Look Bag, I subscribed to it wanting to check it out but didn’t think I would end up keeping it. After seeing only the first box, I knew this is one I’m definitely keeping.

Box contents for June include:

  • Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip Plumper in Tokyo
  • Oscar de la Renta Live in Love Perfume
  • Alterna Boho Waves Texture Mist
  • Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream
  • Murad Clarifying Cleanser
  • Sample Society’s shipping has made me VERY happy. They ship UPS!! I don’t know of any other service that does this but I always get my box 2 days after shipping. For the service, paying $5 extra is almost a steal. I’m definitely more than happy to pay more for quicker/easier shipping. That on top of the sample sizes in the box makes this one of my favorite services.

    Murad Clarifying Cleanser [Purchase]

Actual Value: $26.00 (6.75 fl oz)
Sample Society Value: $7.70 (2.0 fl oz)

Description: This maximum strength cleansing gel cleanser combats acne and skin breakouts. 92% of users experienced a reduction in acne breakouts in just 3 days*. Encapsulated Salicylic Acid continually releases acne treatment for hours even after rinsing. Silver Citrate provides powerful antibacterial protection to inhibit blemish formation.

I haven’t really tried out the cleanser yet since getting it since I have other cleansers and I also don’t have a need for an acne cleanser. Murad is a very well known brand. They are affordable and always deliver results. Judging by the reviews on the product, it either works or doesn’t work. Go figure. Acne products are always a give or miss. If you currently are wanting to find an acne product that works for you, I would definitely give it a try. Otherwise, if it’s not broke don’t fix it? As with anything, please use with moderation.

Alterna Boho Waves Texture Mist [Purchase]

Actual Value: $22.00 (4.2 fl oz)
Sample Society Value: $4.45 (0.85 fl oz)

Description: Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist by Alterna is a weightless texturizing mist that instantly gives you natural, tousled, “just-back-from-the-beach” waves. Adds texture, volume and healthy shine to all hair types.

I absolutely LOVE the smell of this, it’s very fragrant and almost fruity/floral mixed together. It works well enough with my hair that I may seriously consider purchasing a full size one in the future. My hair always needs taming. Alterna’s Boho Waves Texture Mist is easy to use, doesn’t leave hair sticky, and easy to wash out. I normally prefer straight hair over wavy but if you’re looking to add a little wave to your hair, this is one worth trying.

Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream [Purchase]

Actual Value: $95.00 (0.5 fl oz)
Sample Society Value: $5.70 (0.03 fl oz)

Description: This highly active formula targets all signs of aging around the eyes: wrinkles, loss of elasticity, dehydration, dark circles, dark spots, puffiness, malnourishment, and loss of radiance.

This is a tiny sample but you only need a dab of it for your eyes each time. The eye cream is expensive but decent enough. I’m more partial to other eye products I’ve received in the past but it’s nice to sample new ones.

Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip Plumper in Tokyo [Purchase]

Actual Value: $25.00 (no size listed)
Sample Society Value: $unknown (no size listed)

Description: Make your lips full and kissable with our tinted cool mint and ginger lip plumper. Special peptides give moisture and visible plumping that lasts. One simple sweep and your lips will be transformed with sheer natural color and a refreshing feeling you can’t top!

Jane Iredale created the company in 1994, starting off with mineral make up. She is the first to supply the beauty industry with a line of makeup that had sknicare benefits!

The color on this lip plumper is gorgeous. This would definitely be another product I would be interested to purchase in the future. The texture of the lip plumper is so buttery and creamy. You can apply as many coats as you want depending on whether you like lighter or darker shades. The swatch I did was only 2 swatches. There’s a total of 7 colors but I’m already in love with those one. Who doesn’t love Tokyo? ;) This would make a great summer color with or without lip gloss.

Oscar de la Renta Live in Love Perfume [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $98.00 (3.4 oz)
Sample Society Value: $2.88 (.1 fl oz)

Description: Introducing Oscar de la Renta Live in Love; the new fragrance for women created by a man who adores them. Inspired by Oscar de la Renta’s passion for life, the scent is a reflection of the woman who lives each day the same, filled with joy and beauty. This Green Floral fragrance opens with the sheer effervescence of sparkling ginger orchid and bergamot, merged with lush hyacinth, green muguet and galbanum. The Heart is a combination of florals, including jasmine, orange flower and rose. While the base is comprised of creamy white woods and sensual musk intertwined with a veil of white amber, sandalwood and cedarwood.

This is a perfume mini, I’m glad it did not come in those tiny sample tubes. Live in Love is said to have a green, floral smell. I’m not crazy about the fragrance but I definitely like it. It’s not as floral as some other fragrances I’ve smelled but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The combination of jasmine, orange flower, and rose go very well together. They are so well blended it’s hard to distinguish each one.

Total Value: $20.73 (not including Jane Iredale’s Just Kissed Lip Plumper in Tokyo)

    Review: June Birch Box

    Thursday June 28th, 2012 at 12:07 am

My mouse has been seriously acting up lately. It randomly decided it wants to double click the majority of the time when I’m trying to single click. It makes doing anything very frustrating and a waste of my time. I have no idea how to fix it, most of the solutions seem to involve me having to buy a new mouse, which isn’t what I really want to do :/ If I can’t figure out, I guess I have no other choice.

Onto my long overdue June Birch Box review…my experiences with Birch Box haven’t exactly been the best. I don’t particularly dislike them but they also haven’t really offered me a box worth me getting excited for yet. This month’s box did much better than previous months! While I’m still debating continuing or canceling my subscription, I can at least say this month has been the best box yet so far for me. I’m glad I fiddled with the questionnaire.

    Box contents for June include:

  • Ada Cosmetics Bronzer
  • Likewise Facial Moisturizer
  • Masqueology Brightening Mask
  • theBalm Stainiac in Beauty Queen
  • BAND-AID Cynthia Rowley Dress up Band-Aids
  • I decided to put my new bed sheets to use :) I really miss my blue ones though but it’s time they had to go. This month’s box consisted of only 4 items with the 5th item being a bonus item.

Ada Cosmetics Bronzer in Golden [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $12.45 (3 grams)
Birch Box Value: $4.15 (1 gram)

Description: A talc-free face and body powder that gives you a beautiful sunkissed look with a hint of shimmer. Use on face, arms, shoulders and the decolletage.

This is one of the items I was excited to get as I don’t have a bronzer in powder form. The Golden Bronzer comes in a gorgeous shimmery bronze color. The actual color of the bronzer looks much better than the image on the website, I have no idea why they depict a more reddish hue. This can be used anywhere you want for a sunkissed look without the sun.

    Likewise Facial Moisturizer [Purchase]

Actual Value: $44.00 (1.69 fl oz)
Birch Box Value: $3.90 (.15 fl oz)

Description: Working as a hydrating moisturizer and protective sunscreen, Likewise Daily Skincare for normal to dry skin has anti-aging antioxidants and niacinamide, which helps calm dry, irritated skin and reduces redness—including redness associated with rosacea. Use it as a day or nighttime moisturizer. This soothing fragrance-free moisturizer works in harmony with all Likewise skincare products.

This one specifically comes in normal to dry but you can also purchase the moisturizer in oily and normal to oily skin, depending on your skin type. Likewise’s daily skincare moisturizer is both a moisturizer and sunscreen built in one. It has the consistency, look, feel, and smell of sunscreen as well as all the benefits. The moisturizer comes with SPF 50 and added zinc to help reflect sunlight. This moisturizer is great for summer, especially if you’re having a hot dry summer season like I am.

    Masqueology Brightening Mask [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $24.00 (3 masks)
Birch Box Value: $8.00 (1 mask)

Description: A rayon cellulose single use facial mask saturated with advanced multi-functioning ingredients that contours to your face leaving your complexion brighter and refreshed.

This one was of the items featured in Birch Box’s preview video for this month. Since this month’s theme is centered around travel, the face mask is supposed to help brighten your face after a long flight and to give it that refreshing glow. Of course, this can be used even without travel. I personally love face masks and can’t wait to give this a try when I have another long day at work. You can use this before going out, traveling, sleeping etc.

theBalm Stainiac in Beauty Queen [Purchase]

Actual Value: $17.00 (0.3 fl oz)
Birch Box Value: $2.27 (0.04 fl oz)

Description: Staniac hint of tint works with all skin tones. Dab just a touch on your cheeks or layer to pop the color. Fear not those dreaded streaks that most tints leave behind. Staniac’s water-based formula is designed to give you more time before the stain sets.

I think I prefer lip stains to lip sticks. Stainiac’s lip stain can be used for both your lips and cheek. The color is great if you want to put a little or a lot of color into your lips and cheek. Personally, I prefer a little on my lips to bring out the color without driving too much attention to them. I was very happy to see Birch Box sent me this item!

BAND-AID Cynthia Rowley Dress up Band-Aids [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $5.00 (20 bandages)
Birch Box Value: $5.00 (20 bandages)

This was the only item in the box that I was disappointed in. There were two lifestyle extra items this month I believe…you either received the pack of bandaids or a tili bag that you can use to store items. I would have preferred the tili bag over bandaids. I hardly use bandaids to begin with and I’m also not entirely fond of these designs at all, I would prefer the plain ones. The only thing I can say yay to is Birch Box actually sending out a full box instead of 1-2 bandaids.

    Total Value: $23.32

    Review: June My Glam

    Wednesday June 20th, 2012 at 9:04 pm

Don’t forget the giveaway for this bag is located at this post. I haven’t had as much of an opportunity to promote is this time around :x Giveaway ends in 10 days and is open internationally. I know a lot of people outside the US are interested in getting their hands on a glam bag~

I apologize for the lack of updates lately. There’s been several things going on, both good and bad, and I’ve been preoccupied with other things. I’m very behind in reviews. Minus my Glossy Box, all of my subscription services have arrived. I received my My Glam bag early last week. They surprised everyone this month by shipping out a bit earlier than expected! I’m not too sure if this will be a permanent change or if they happened to get everything ready ahead of time this month and wanted everyone to get their bags as soon as possible. Either way, thanks My Glam!

(Agh…my mouse is giving me problems, so annoying @_@ !!)

    Bag Contents for June include:

  • Philosophy take a deep breath Moisturizer
  • Living Proof frizz nourishing styling cream
  • Marbella Permanent Eye Liner Pen
  • NYX Round Lipstick in Chloe
  • This month’s bag lived up to My Glam’s claim of amazing! Finally 4-5 deluxe/travel sized products as promised and no tiny packets :)

This month’s bag had a little bit of a change up. It’s nice to know they have other design ideas in mind other than the standard zip up bags. I wonder what else we’ll be getting in the future. While, I’m glad to see a different style bag..I’m not incredibly fond of this one. The gold glitters do fall off (you can see specks already around the bag in the image) and the bag itself isn’t very sturdy. Inside is a very plain canvas type material. This will be great to hold smaller stuff, such as card, pens, etc. Anything larger will cause the bag to collapse a bit and become clumsy.

Marbella Permanent Eye Liner Pen [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $19.00
    My Glam Value: $19.00

Description: Marbella Semi Permanent Cosmetics offers The best eyeliner ever! This felt-pen eyeliner lasts longer than any other liner – pen, gel, cream, pencil, powder and it lasts flawlessly. No smudging, cracking, smearing. It stays on precisely where you put it until you are ready to take it off!. If you use rich eye creams, have oily eyelids, live in a humid climate, party, work out or rub your eyes often and so forth, this pen is ideally for you. Effects are perfect, doesn’t look so bold as a liquid liner; it actually looks softer, like pencil but your eyes will look dramatically stunning!

Marbella Eye liners are formulated to provide rich, consistent color using organic ingredients that have no irritancy effect. They are comfortable to apply and the felt tip allows for a precise application. Marbella 24hr Eyeliner can be used to create a sharp line or a softer, smoky effect. Marbella 24hr Eyeliner offers more than 24 hours long-lasting wonder and won’t cake or streak.

The reviews that I’ve seen on this eyeliner have been either love it or hate it. Personally, I don’t know if I particularly care for this eye liner. It’s not as permanent or waterproof as the liner says but it’s possible I didn’t give it enough time to fully dry. Some people have been able to achieve amazing results with the eyeliner while others have had the same problem of it smudging quickly. It’s recommended that you do not use this eye liner on your waterline if you wear contacts as they will stain the lenses. The eyeliner is duo tip so once you run out, just flip the brush part over and you have a brand new eye liner!

Philosophy take a deep breath Moisturizer [Purchase]

    Actual Value: 2 oz ($34.00)
My Glam Value: 0.4 oz ($6.80)

Description: Breath new life into your skin with take a deep breath oil-free energizing oxygen gel cream moisturizer. this lightweight hydrator detoxifies and helps protect for a healthy-looking glow.

I love moisturizers! and this one didn’t disappoint.

(I probably should have tested the eye liner last)

Philosophy’s take a deep breath moisturizer comes in a gorgeous light blue/green color. It’s lightly scented so anyone who doesn’t care too much for scented face products will probably like this one, it’s not fragrant at all. The moisturizer goes on coolly and smoothly. It makes a great base for makeup or just day to day wear. As an added bonus, it’s oil free (and refreshing)!

Living Proof frizz nourishing styling cream [Purchase]

    Actual Value: 24 oz ($95.00)
My Glam Value: 2 oz ($7.92)

Description: A velvety cream that provides optimum frizz reduction and a touch of conditioning. Living Proof Straight Making No Frizz Styling Cream for Medium to Thick Hair offers the first new anti-frizz technology in over 30 years. No Frizz addresses the two causes of frizz—humidity and friction. It provides a superior, extremely thin humidity barrier on hair, while reducing surface friction. The result is the most effective, lightweight frizz fighter on the market today. Hair is left sleek and manageable without becoming greasy or heavy.

This should have been expected once My Glam did their Living Proof challenge contest :) I’m very glad to see they provided everyone with an awesome sized sample of this. I haven’t had a chance to fully test out this product but it’s been receiving great reviews.

I’m indifferent on the smell of it. I’m don’t hate it but I’m not crazy about it either. It’s slightly sweet and not overpowering but I’m more partial to sweeter hair products. This goes on hair very well and helps to control frizz, my hair will definitely appreciate this later.

NYX Round Lipstick in Chloe [Purchase]

    Actual Value: $4.00
    My Glam Value: $4.00

Description: NYX Round Lipstick is our classic lipstick for all-year round. The mineral-based emollient formula offers a beautiful velvet texture, saturated color and it resists wear and smudging. It’s your go-to lipstick. From Pure Nude to Pink Lyric to Chic Red, Round Lipstick is available in a jaw-dropping 126 shades.

126 shades o_O Some of them are gorgeous, this is a great lipstick for the very affordable price of only $4.00. I’m just glad I did not get another brown~ish colored lipstick this time.

The color, unfortunately, does not go too great with my skin tone and the way I dress. It’s a VERY bright pink, I almost think it looks a bit scary on me. I’ll play around with the lipstick later. I think I can make it work if I dab it on with a brush for a lighter color and finish up with a lip gloss.

    Total Value: $37.72

This was a super satisfying combination of items although I don’t have a lot of use for half the items. It’s still nice to have extras on hand and to try new colors. I never know what pops up in the future. July’s bag is supposed to continue a great streak so we’ll see how things turn out for My Glam during their second half of the year.

    Review: May Glossy Box USA

    Monday June 4th, 2012 at 1:40 am

I’m always so happy to get Glossy Box’s! I’m paying a lot more money, it’s only expected that I get more excited. I meant to get this up 2 nights ago since I didn’t have a lot going but I got sidetracked with less important things so that didn’t happen. I think I have attention problems this weekend ._. It’s mostly because I’m dying to make a new layout and I have an idea in mind but I’m not anywhere skilled enough in Photoshop to make it happen so a lot of pondering has been going on.

Glossy Box USA has done well in it’s first public box! Outside of shipping, I have no complaints about any of the products. Glossy Box USA brings a new shipping method into attention, Newgistics. Newgistics is a shipping company dealing in the management of small parcel delivery and return services (yay for Wikipedia). They focus on developing a better process for returning products ordered online. Partnering up with USPS have made their shipping methods similar to UPS MI. Newgistics ships the package and it’s picked up later by USPS to be delivered. It sounds fancy but Newgistics process is extremely slow, even slower than that of UPS MI in my opinion. It usually takes Glossy Box over a week to get to me even though I’m on the east coast. Glossy Box USA has said they are looking into newer shipping methods but the soonest it would be implemented would be a couple months, and that’s if there are any changes made. I don’t generally have fits over shipping as long as it gets to me at some point but in these cases, I wouldn’t mind paying additional to receive it sooner. Patience might be a virtue but I don’t have it :)

    Box Contents for May include:

  • Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Refreshing Hydra-Gel
  • Burberry Beauty Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipstick Copper No. 202
  • Marvis Whitening Mint Toothpaste
  • Phyto Phytojoba Intense Hydrating Mask for Dry Hair
  • ZOYA Summer 2012 Beach and Surf Collection Nail Polish in Reagan
  • Glossy Box Exclusive Blush Brush
  • Glossy Box USA’s “first” box has delivered what they promised, 5 travel-sized beauty items with some being full sized samples! The theme for May is “Beauty Around the World”. Each product originates from a different country. I love trying international brands so you have no idea how happy Glossy Box keeps making me.

The info cards list products, descriptions, what country they represent, prices, and more information. The card hints the soon to be released Glossy Dots program. The Glossy Dots program will allow you to review products from each box and you earn 20 points for each review, which will eventually go towards a free box! I’m not too sure how many points will be required before you can redeem your free box but the rewards program should be up soon with the info. Other countries that have referral programs will also allow you to earn dots through referrals. Hopefully the US will get this option soon as well. The amount of points earned varies country to country but it seems that every country let’s you redeem a free box after 1000 points. If the US follows the same tradition, that means 50 reviews will earn you a free box. If you review every item in each box, you can redeem a free box after 10 months. It sounds like a long time, but with the help of referral points, some people will be able to receive multiple free boxes in a year.

ZOYA Summer 2012 Beach and Surf Collection Nail Polish in Reagan (USA) [Purchase]

Actual Value: 0.5 fl oz ($8.00)
Glossy Box Value: 0.5 fl oz ($8.00)

Description: Zoya Nail Polish in Reagan can be best described as a deep, cool fuchsia pink with subtle blue undertone and an opaque cream finish. Reagan packs a lot of color without being excessively bright and is soft but not overly muted.

This is the only item in the box that came in a variety. You would have received any random color from ZOYA’s Summer 2012 Beach & Surf Collection. Glossy Box seems to love giving me pink nail polishes. This one is a darker shade of pink than the OPI nail polish fro April’s box, which was a shade of hot pink.

It looks more bright in the photo but fuchsia pink is a great term for it’s color. It’s a slightly darker shade a pink. ZOYA rates the intensity of this color with a 4 with 1 being sheer and 5 being opaque. The nail polish dries fairly quickly and the color is gorgeous on my nails. It has a very smooth looking finish. I don’t ever wear nail polish but ZOYA is one brand I see a lot of people mention.

Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Refreshing Hydra-Gel (South Korea) [Purchase]

Actual Value: 1.7 fl oz ($100.00)
Glossy Box Value: 0.27 fl oz ($15.88)

Description: A refreshing, oil-free hydrating gel that works to delay all signs of aging. This deeply hydrating gel stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid in the skin to improve moisture levels. Formulated with ginger root extract and nine essential amino acids, these ingredients revitalize the skin to reveal a radiant complexion.

I genuinely do not mind small samples as long as they are not in packets. I find these small containers to be adorable! The gel comes in a light shade of blue/green and it smells very refreshing. I can’t quite pinpoint the smells but I would definitely love this every day. It’s also oil-free as an added bonus so no need to worry about oily residues and such.

It comes with a reflective mirror on the cap, I thought this was a very unique idea. I think the full size ones comes with one too. I had fun playing around with it.

Burberry Beauty Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipstick Copper No. 202 (UK) [Purchase]

    Actual Value: 0.12 oz ($30.00)
Glossy Box Value: .028 oz ($7.00)

Description: Burberry Lip Mist gives a sheer illuminating finish with a subtle hint of color, contains moisturising emollients and wild rose extract for long-lasting hydration and protection. The smooth and lightweight texture glides on effortlessly. Both the lipstick cover and lipstick come with the signature Burberry patterns.

My first thought was “another brown lipstick”? This is another sample that I thought was too adorable. The box the lipstick came in is about the size of my pinky finger.

Burberry’s Lip Mists are a bit different than lipsticks. They aren’t designed to focus a lot on color. When the lipstick says sheer, it does indeed mean sheer. The Lip Mist almost ended up looking like a lip gloss on me. It ended up going on more clear than it did brown, which makes it wearable for just about any occasion. Am I the only one who thinks the lip mist tasted like blue raspberry?

Marvis Whitening Mint Toothpaste (Italy) [Purchase]

    Actual Value: 1.23 oz ($7.50)
Glossy Box Value: 1.23 oz ($7.50)

Description: Marvis Whitening, with a sharp taste of cool mint for a pleasant and lasting freshness, carries out a whitening activity on your teeth for a more beautiful and splendid smile. Marvis flavors are created by offsetting the aroma of mint, to provide the freshness you need, with innovative notes to offer you a long-lasting pleasurable taste sensation that can be different every day. The Marvis Formula: White, protected teeth, fresh breath all day long, helps prevent tooth decay, tartar and plaque.

It’s interesting to receive toothpaste in a beauty box. I never would have expected it. The travel size is nice for me. Whenever I go on trips, I never take toothpaste and always end up bumming off my friends. Having extra toothpaste on hand also never hurts.

The smell isn’t anything special, just your usual fluoride, minty toothpaste. The consistency of the it seems a bit different to me, almost thicker than that of American brands. The mint flavoring isn’t strong, I had a hard time tasting much of anything in the toothpaste after using brands such as Colgate for so long. Marvis comes in a more subtle taste but still gets the job done!

Phyto Phytojoba Intense Hydrating Mask for Dry Hair (France) [Purchase]

    Actual Value: 6.7 oz ($38.00)
Glossy Box Value: 1.7 oz ($9.64)

Description: A staple at top salons, this aromatic mask from Phyto melts into a luxurious hair softener that moisturizes and instantly detangles. Hair regains elasticity and manageability.

This is my second Phyto item. I received one earlier in either my Beauty Fix or Beauty Army bag, can’t remember. I’m actually very excited to try this and the size of the sample is just amazing! My hair is super dry, it’s one think I’m constantly having to fight with. If this works well, I’ll definitely be back to buy a full sized one.

Glossy Box Exclusive Blush Brush [Purchase]

    Actual Value: —
    Glossy Box Value: —

This came an added bonus with the box. Who knows if it was because it’s the first box or if it’s something they will do every now and then for subscribers. I was happy to see it was a blush brush. It’s one of the few brushes I do not have. I’ve been using my foundation brush all this time. Glossy Box’s blush brush is an all black brush made from goat hair. It’s very soft and it’s easy to see that the quality of the brush is very nice. Thank you Glossy Box for the gift!

Total Value: $48.02 (not including the brush)

Not bad for a box that cost me $21. Minus the nail polish, I should have uses for all the items in the box. I can’t wait to see what’s in next month’s box :) Services like Birch Box and My Glam are great for the price and the opportunity to still try different products but I do prefer to have products I can use for a while and am willing to pay extra for it. Glossy Box is the most expensive service I have but it’s makes me the happiest. Next one up will be Sample Society, which I’ll be receiving my first box Tuesday. Let’s see what a $6 difference can make.

    Men In Black III

    Sunday May 27th, 2012 at 12:15 am

*sidetracks* I think I forgot to rant this a few days ago but WHO DECIDED TO POSTPONE GI JOE: RETALIATION TO MARCH 2013?? WHO??!!! And for 3D?! *sigh* I’m so disappointed. This was one movie I was super excited to see this year. Now I have to wait until 2013 to get me some more Rock action :/ and I don’t even see movies in 3D.

MIB 3 was released yesterday, wooo! Finally, a movie worth watching at a movie theater. Sadly, MIB 2 was slightly disappointing but I enjoyed every minute of MIB 3!! A little recap and introduction to some of the characters. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers!

Nicole Scherzinger was hot! hot! hot! in the movie!! No one could have done it better, I absolutely loved her. Can I say she’s got a spectacular pair of assets? x3

Boris the Animal…or rather, it’s “Just Boris”, is out on a rampage for some much overdo revenge to assassinate Agent K and to change history after having an altercation with Agent K back in 1969 that cost him his left arm. Having been in jail for 40 years has made him slightly cranky. It also gave him this great opportunity to plan some shit out nicely, such as time travel cause…that be important.

Hi Agent K…meet Agent K. Agent K is again the main honcho of the movie (although again, he doesn’t do as much…) Through a little bit of time travel, we dig a bit into K’s life as well as what events caused him to change his character to become the K we all love so much in MIB 1, 2 and part of 3. Yes, the one that has slightly more expressions than Kristen Stewart. K’s 29 year old counterpart sure has some good looks.

The hero of the movie, again. Agent J must travel back in time to save his dear friend and partner and to prevent history from rewriting itself. Along the way, he runs into certain uh…hardships?? of the late 1960s. Okay, not really. Life’s not too hard when you have special gadgets but that’s not the point! Props to Will Smith for too much humor and quick thinking, see how we have no aliens on earth? Or maybe I’m just misinformed :/

MVP of the movie!! Unfortunately, Griffin doesn’t seem to get enough love for him to have his own screenshot (yet I’ll get a picture of Loki when googling for Griffin?) but he is the awkward looking guy in the middle. Griffin is an alien who is able to see multiple timelines at once. Depending on what happens, he’s able to see which possible future will occur out of a pool or possible futures. Confusing? A little. Griffin holds the key to defeating Boris and on top of that, I just found his character to be adorable!

Overall, MIB 3 takes a slightly new twist on the MIB franchise. While not as packed in action as the first one, MIB 3 had enough comedy to keep you laughing the majority of the movie. You can thank Will Smith later. There’s definitely a lot more to the movie and totally worth the time and money!

Screenshots were taken from here. Thanks for all the great shots!

    Review: May My Glam

    Sunday May 20th, 2012 at 2:20 am

I’ve been putting this off for a little while now. The past few days have been pretty busy for me outside of work. I wanted to get this up earlier this afternoon after I got off work but 1) I was so tired I crashed on the couch immediately after I got home and 2) a bunch of my friends ended up coming over spontaneously. It’s 1:35 AM and I probably should go to bed since I have another full day tomorrow but I really wanted to get this up!

Don’t forget about my May My Glam Bag Giveaway! Be sure to fill in all fields. I’m still getting people just clicking enter, it won’t count as an entry! :[

Shipping on these bags is one thing I’ll never get over and I’ve noticed it’s slowly starting to tick me off more and more. This isn’t entirely My Glam’s fault other than the fact they choose to use this service. My anger is directed straight at USPS. For anyone who doesn’t know, My Glam uses a shipping service known as UPS MI (Mail Innovations). It’s popular among beauty subscription services because of it’s cheap cost. It’s cheaper to send than both USPS First Class and Parcel Post. However, the downside to that is it is also slower and does not have any time constraint as long as it’s delivered in a timely manner. UPS MI is shipped via UPS and delivered by USPS. Generally, my package gets to my vicinity pretty quickly, which is understandable since UPS does not like to hold onto packages. USPS is the problem…my package will always sit somewhere for 2-3 days. Usually, it’s in Atlanta…this time it reached my city on Monday and sat in a post office somewhere until Thursday. I have no idea why this is, my local post man didn’t know either. My only guess is since Thursday was my estimated delivery date, they wanted to work super hard (sarcasm) to make sure I received it then. It’s. Annoying. I can’t complain about free shipping but really USPS? You would hold a package for 4 days before you even bother to deliver it?

Moving on to the actual review…I had to get that out of my system, again.

    Bag contents for May include:

  • Philosophy Love Sweet Love Spray Fragrance
  • Studio Gear Complete Color Lipstick
  • Miss Beauty Bail Bling
  • My Glam Concealer Brush

    Review: May Look Bag

    Thursday May 17th, 2012 at 1:13 am

Sometime last month, I decided to give The Look Bag a try. I had heard good things about the service although it seemed that not as many people use it. The Look Bag is an eco-friendly company located in California and is very similar to Birch Box and My Glam. For $10 a month, you receive 5 luxury product samples from high end brands. The company was founded by Damone Roberts, a very well known make-up artist. It’s also represented by Leah Renee Cudmore, Hailey Duff, and Jenna Dewan. Items are shipped in a reusable bag every month and members also receive a 20% discount off any product at The Look Store.

I wasn’t too sure about the service at first. Not many people I knew subscribed to it and although I’ve heard about it, I’ve never seen too much of what they had to offer. What caught my eye was a sample of the Pur~lisse moisturizer in the April bag. I had received a sample packet of it in my My Glam bag and loved it. April’s Look Bag offered a very good sized sample of it so I decided why not…it’s only an extra $10 a month, can’t hurt and I can always cancel by the time Glossy Box rolled around.

I received my Look Bag earlier last week and I have to say, I’m not too sure if I want to cancel now. I love the bag and the products were all very good sized samples. I received one sample packet, which was also a copy of something I received in my April Glossy Box, but it was an extra and not included in the 5 item count. On top of that, The Look Bag uses First Class mail as opposed UPS MI like most other services use since it’s cheaper. I received my package so much quicker, only 3 days to arrive coming from California! Everything else usually takes a week or more coming from California or New York. I might stay subscribed just because I love the fact they use First Class and not some shitty ass service like UPS MI. You have no idea how much UPS MI pisses me off. Both my My Glam bags arrived in my city Monday but the damn post office has been holding it for no reason other than the fact that my expected delivery date is tomorrow but that’s another story for another day.

    Bag contents for May include:

  • L’Oreal Paris Wear Infinite Pressed Eyeshadow
  • Kelly Teegarden Organics Intense Tightening Serum
  • Naked Princess Shineluscious Lip Gloss Sampler (4)
  • The New Black Nailpolishes (2)
  • Erno Laszlo The Holly Wood Sampler

    Review: May Birch Box

    Tuesday May 15th, 2012 at 1:34 am

I’m running a bit behind on my reviews, this is the downside to having almost all my subscriptions arrive mid-month. While it maybe Christmas for a week, I get a little overwhelmed trying to get reviews up as soon as possible while still attempting to try out as many products as I can first.

May’s Birch Box arrived last Thursday. I don’t particularly care for surprises when it comes to these monthly subscription services (although I’m not opposed to them) so I cheated a little and already found out what I would be receiving. There was a lot of hype around May’s Birch Box since the theme is the hit TV series, Gossip Girl. I don’t watch the series since I’ve never developed an interest in it but everyone who has seen it raves about it. The box is supposed to reflect the series, which got many people excited. There were even rumors of a Dior item.

May’s Birch Box had 19 known variations, with only a couple of them worth receiving in my opinion. The rest had a combination of items that I thought were decent but nothing special. Only 1-2 boxes had anything Dior related I believe.

    Box contents for May include:

  • Dr. Jart Waterfuse BB Cream
  • Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner
  • Kerastase Cristalliste Lumiere Liquide
  • Color Club Nail Polish in Disco Nap
  • Extras include:

  • Kerastase Cristalliste Bain Cristal Shampoo
  • Kerastase Cristalliste Bain Cristal Conditioner
  • Notecards

    Review: April Glossy Box USA

    Friday May 4th, 2012 at 2:24 pm

It’s finally here! I was so excited to see this arrive today. The dang post office’s sucky tracking system did not update at all for me after the initial pick up scan, which was about 5 business days ago.

For those unfamiliar with Glossy Box, they are a UK based company with subscriptions available in over 18 countries! Simliar to Birch Box and My Glam, Glossy box is a monthly subscription service that delivers 5 travel-sized beauty products to you every month. Brands will be featured from all around the world, not just brands common in the United States. Currently, Glossy Box does not have subscriptions open although they will be releasing subscriptions this month. Anyone interested should sign up for the newsletter now in order to be among the first to receive the good news :) Boxes will run $21 per month, much higher than other beauty subscription services. Their foreign boxes have featured some really amazing items and it’s expected of their US boxes to do similar.

Glossy Box’s inaugural box is only limited to select people. You either had to be chosen by Glossy Box to receive a box and do a review in exchange or you had to be a contest winner. Contests ranged from random email picks, facebook giveaways, youtube contests, to twitter contests. The lucky winners were able to receive Glossy Box’s debut/first box! I won mine through Glossy Box’s first twitter party. I still can’t say enough how happy I am to have this opportunity. This box blew me away and makes me even more excited to subscribe. Read below to see what the contents~

    Review: Birchbox April Box

    Thursday May 3rd, 2012 at 9:26 am

Birch Box is a monthly beauty subscription service based out of NYC. Their services run $10 a month, similar to My Glam and The Look Bag. You’ll receive a selection of samples every month (most likely 4-5) to try and also have the opportunity to earn points. You earn 10 points for a monthly subscription and 110 points for a yearly subscription. Every time you purchase an item from the Birch Box shop, you earn 1 point for every $1 spent. Referring friends will earn you 50 points and completely feedback surveys will earn 10 points each. Once you reach 100 points, you are able to exchange for a $10 reward to spend on Birch Box. If you wanted to, you could review every box. 2 boxes will 5 items each will earn you 100 points, which equates to a free box should you choose to take advantage of the $10 reward offer. Points will expire one year from the date they were earned.

Birch Box has been around for about a year and a half but I’ve never really taken interest in it until recently. Much like every other beauty subscription service, there’s plenty of mixed feelings going around. People either love it, hate it, or are meh about it. Since I started with a My Glam subscription, I wasn’t all that into Birch Box. However, the more I see about Birch Box, the more interested I was so I decided to try them out. I also figured this would be a great comparison for both My Glam and Birch Box subscribers or for those curious about the other box. Luck would have it that when I try to sign up, I ended up on a wait list. I received the email a couple weeks ago, over a month after I had been wait listed. At first I thought I would be receiving the May box as my first one but much to my surprise, I received the April one.

    Box contents for April include:

  • Alima Pure Organic Nourishing Lipbalm in Rhubarb
  • willa Foaming Face Wash
  • Kahina Giving Beauty Argan Oil
  • Kahina Giving Beauty Facial Lotion
  • Wonderstruck Taylor Swift
