Review: My Glam April Bag

Tuesday April 17th, 2012 at 9:35 pm

My Glam‘s April bag arrived last Friday but I didn’t get a chance to review it until now. I’m glad to be reviewing the April bag for my first review, it really is a decent bag in my opinion. For those who are unfamiliar with My Glam: My Glam is a fairly new makeup/beauty subscription service that offers 4-5 deluxe or full sized samples every month for $10, similar to Birch Box and The Look Bag. The company started with their first bag last December.

My Glam seems to have finally fixed a lot of their kinks by their fifth bag and have done great listening to feedback from customers. Shipping for this month definitely improved, especially for me. March’s bag took a total of 10 days to reach me after I received my tracking number. April’s bag took about 5 days, and only because it decided to chill in Atlanta for 2 days doing who knows what.

Bag contents for April include:

  • Dermstore Lip Quench
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil
  • My Glam Eyeshadow Brush
  • My Glam Eyeliner Brush
  • All-Belle Eyelashes

  • April’s bag was more centered around what the majority of My Glam subscribers wanted: more makeup. This month’s bag consisted of no skincare and no sample packets, which caused a lot of backlash in March’s bag. They also included only one card that listed the contents of the bag. Coupon codes for this month are listed on the site instead. There is one code for Dermstore and one code for Urban Decay. I was very happy to see this as it leaves me with less trash and saves a tree or two.

The bag this month is a little plain compared to previous months but still very cute. I’m not the biggest fan of pink although I’m starting to like it more. The bag comes in a shiny/metallic pink.

Inside of the bag is another layer of pink lining.

    Dermstore Lip Quench [Purchase]

    Actual Value: 0.21 oz ($12.00)
My Glam Value: 0.21 oz ($12.00)

Description: A glossy lip moisturizer for smoother lips. DermStore Lip Quench hydrates, softens and adds a hint of color to your lips. Soybean, olive and sweet almond oils provide antioxidant protection and nutrients. Vitamin E treats dry, chapped lips. Perfect for wearing alone or over a matte lipstick for high shine lips.

Lip Quench is one of Dermstore’s newest products and all My Glam members were able to get a full-sized product of this for free. My lips are generally always dry and I have to apply some type of lip balm couple times a day. So far I’ve been using Neosporin’s lip care but I’m always looking for new/better products to try. This has been working so far for me. The Pur~lisse lip comfort from last month’s bag left my lips dry and chapped after a few uses so I was a little disappointed given that many people had great reviews on it and I was one of the few that did not benefit from it.

The first thing I noticed about the Lip Quench is that it seems heavier in consistency compared to other lip cares. I was a little worried about it at first but after using it, I was surprised at how smoothly it went on my lips. It felt great. It comes in a fruity flavor, almost like Pina Colada mixed with other fruits. That’s probably the only downside for me as great tasting lip balm causes me to lick my lips a lot.

The Lip Quench can also double as a lip gloss.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil [Purchase]

    Actual Value: 0.04 oz ($19.00)
My Glam Value: 0.03 oz ($14.25)

Description: The best Eye Pencil ever, ever, ever! Never before has a pencil this creamy and brilliant been waterproof, too. Velvety-soft, this never-before-seen formula stays soft and creamy for blending (about 30 seconds), then dries down to a long-lasting finish that WILL NOT budge. Line eyes with a hint of color or go for the full artistic, multi-hued effect with the wide selection of lush tropical hues, deep metallics and unusually vibrant neutrals. Incredible with Urban Decay Eyeshadows!

Created with 50% moisturizing ingredients suspended in a sophisticated waterproof formula, 24/7 Eye Pencils offer long-lasting color and a dreamy, creamy feel when applied. With Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E and Cottonseed Oil.

This was one of the products that I was looking most forward to. My MAC eye pencil recently broke for no reason and I only got a few uses out of it. I have a liquid eye liner but sometimes I prefer a pencil. I’m very glad I did not buy another one. Although its not full size, this is a very generous sample. I don’t apply eye liner a lot so it should last me quite a while. I received mine in Perversion, which is what I was hoping for. I don’t particularly have any uses for the other colors.

As the description reads, the eye liner glides on very smoothly and thickly. I think it works even better than my MAC eye liner does. One swipe is all that I need. It stays on very well, I try smudging it and nothing happened. A lot of water and makeup remover is probably the only 2 things that will take this off.

My Glam Eyeshadow Brush & My Glam Eyeliner Brush

No value yet and cannot be purchased.

These brushes are 2 additional brushes to add to the March blending brush and brush case. They are made out of pony hair and specifically created only for My Glam users.

2 brushes to add to my brush collection. I don’t have a large brush collection, so the eye liner brush definitely is a great addition. I already have an eye shadow brush from my Naked pallet but more never hurts. I have not yet tried either one of the brushes but reviews so far have been good on them. The brushes are soft and seem very sturdy to me, especially given the price I technically paid for them. All of the brushes come in My Glam’s signature pink and are embossed with the My Glam logo.

    All-Belle Eyelashes

    Value: Pack of 20 ($20)
    My Glam Value: 1 ($2)

I couldn’t find anywhere on the offical All Belle website to purchase these so prices are taken from ebay. The website is a little hard to navigate and I could only find store information depending on what type of lashes you want to buy. I’ll look more into it later.

All Belle is a Taiwanese company and is fairly well known. As far as I know, all belle lashes are pretty popular in Asia and have been known to last quite a while although they are cheap. The lashes are gamma ray sterilized and come in a wide variety of forms and thickness.

I seem to be pretty lucky with my bags so far *knocks on wood* Any time there is variety, I tend to get what I’m hoping for. I’ve only worn false lashes once at MTAC earlier this month. It was kind of a rocky process but I got used to them throughout the day. I’m glad for this set, it’s not too thick. I like false lashes every now and then depending on what I’m doing but I don’t want to have super thick lashes. I haven’t had a chance to use these yet but I’ll be sure to take pics when I do.

I’m glad My Glam put this in this month’s bag. I love to try products from other countries since it’s hard to get them in the US and there are so many of them!

The glue was attached to the back of the lashes. I most likely will not use them since I have the duo eye lash glue and it works great for me already.

For anyone wondering about the date on the side, it is the manufacturing date so these are almost brand new. Asian cosmetics/products tend to come with manufacturing dates.

Total value of April’s bag: at least $28.25 (not including the My Glam brushes)

Overall, I’m pleased with this month’s bag. I’ve got enough skin products for now to last me a while, although I don’t particularly trying out more. The lip quench, eye liner, and lashes are all things that I can use and definitely needed.

When subscriptions open again, I’ll most likely purchase another subscription to do monthly giveaways. They are definitely improving and I’m excited to see where they go.
